From The Birmingham News, March 8, 1932: Mrs. Nancy A. Abney, 59, Sayreton, Ala, passed away at the residence, Monday p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Friendship Church. Interment adjoining cemetery, Brown directing. Surviving are the husband, A. F. Abney; six sons, C. W., J. W., A. F., J. C., J. D., H. J.; two daughters, Mrs. L. M. Clowdus, Mrs. E. M. Abney; one brother, two sisters, father, J. W. Sullivan.

Abney; 1 daughter, Mrs. James E. Ward, of Gardendale; 1 granddaughter, Miss Teresa Ward; 1 sister, Mrs. James A. Murphy, of Pratt City; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services Saturday 2 p.m. at Sayreton Assembly of God Church, the Rev. Robert Gowins officiating, interment at Friendship Cemetery. Active pallbearers, James L. Green, Raymond Rockett, James Murphy, Arthur Palmer, Grover Abney, Paul Reed. Brown-Service Norwood directing.

From The Birmingham News, September 1, 1977: Mrs. Nettie Abney, 83, of Birmingham, died Tuesday. She was a member of Mineral Springs Methodist Church. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Friendship Methodist Church, with burial in adjoining cemetery, Gardendale Chapel directing. Survivors include three sons, Thomas Abney, Selfville, Roy Abney, Tampa, Fla., and Raymond Abney, Morris, two daughters, Mrs. Doris Jones, Republic, and Mrs. Martha Herring, Hanceville, and a sister, Mrs. Alice Fulmer, Brookside.

Mrs. Nanalee Abney, age 78 of Hamilton, OH and formerly of Orlando, died Tuesday, June 10 at the Mercy Hospital in Fairfield, OH. She was born on June 9, 1927. She was a homemaker.


She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Sufferage of Hamilton, OH; and a sister, Midge Davidson of Orlando, FL. Also surviving are three grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild, Keriston McCollum. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Abney.

Mr. Nola Thomas Abner, 81, of Beattyville, KY, formerly of Morganton, NC, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2007. He was born in Primrose, KY on June 22, 1925 to the late John Henry and Doll Drake Abner. He was a US Navy veteran having served during WWII, and a member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Morganton, NC.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vergie Powell Abner; two brothers, Kenneth and Ishamel Abner.


He is survived by three step-sons, C. Donald Fox of Charlotte, AR, Derryl G. Fox of Nebo, NC and Arnold E. Fox of Morganton, NC; seventeen step-grandchildren, numerous step-great and great-great grandchildren; one brother, Arthur �Von� Abner and wife Ann of Beattyville, KY, and two sisters, Ila Rae Barnes of Clermont, FL and Mila Vern Abner of Beattyville, KY.


Other survivors include four nieces, Jeanette Moore and husband, Tyler of Osgood, IN, Carol Roberts of Richmond, VA and Mary Johnson and husband, Rick and, Vonda Gay Williams and husband, Danny, all of Beattyville, KY; four nephews, John Elmer Abner and wife Nancy of Beattyville, with whom Nola resided; Gerald Henry Abner and wife Belva of Lexington, KY; Charles Ray Abner and wife Dorinda of Plymouth, MI, and Arthur Coleman Abner and wife Marcella of Mt. Sterling, KY; an adopted daughter, Linda Anker and husband Jim of Orion, MI; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 14th at Kirksey Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Assembly of God Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the funeral home. Out-of-town services were held Thursday evening in Booneville, KY.
