A new researcher, Davine Roberts, has sent in a new resource. Here is her comments:
I have scanned and attached the first page 143 and page 147.
Keep in mind that these copies were printed from microfilm and scanned,
so the qualify is not the best, but they can still be read.
Dr. Abney presented a petition to the Virginia House of Burgesses. I will tell you exactly what it reads in quotes.
On page 147 about a third of the way down, "It is interesting to find the house considering matters,
which have since often become a part of the business of modern governments:
..........rewards for the discovery of cures for diseases." 99
At the bottom of this page is the reference #99 which is:
"99. Journals, 1742, 12. A petition of Abraham Abney, who had discovered a 'safe, easy, and speedy cure for cancer,
by some simples of his natural growth of this colony,
and praying, after his demonstration, for some encouragement and reward."
I am hoping you can use these.
