(note#1): The country we know as Germany is a fairly new nation in European history, having been formed in the early 1800s of several smaller nations and Palantine States, people of that era referred to their country as the Deutchland, this later caused some confusion in the New World where Hollanders and Germanic peoples where lumped together as "Dutchmen".

(note #2): In the Palatine Countries of this era, it was common to name most male children after the father and females after the mother, hence the Johannes and Anna in nearly all the names, this practice was continued to some extent by the first generations of immagrants in the New World. Johannes being the first male child of Johannes would then be called Johannes (Hanss is a dimunitive of Johannes) and the other male children would be called by their second names, i.e. Franz, Dietrich, etc. The first female would retain the name Anna and all subsequent females would revert to their second names, i.e. Margaretha, Elisabetha, etc.).
