Listing of headstones in Freezeout Cemetery

There are indications of many, many more and some additional cleaning may uncover them.

List of headstones in the Freezeout Cemetery 15 April 2002

I have attempted to list them alphabetically just as they read with the exception of a standardized method of dates. To find out more information on a particular headstone, hyperlink the photo and any additional information that I have received will be under the photo.

List of other known burials, unmarked or markers no longer exist

(most of the detail information below was furnished by Marie Hubert, Milam County Genealogy Society)

Bryant, Josephine; died Jan 4 1935 age 84, in Pct. 8, Rockdale, was from MS., was a widow and died of a stroke. Phillips and Luckey Funeral home and shows buried at Sandow. The Roman Bryant you have listed was 84 at death, married from Alabama and had T.B. I bet they were husband and wife. (About 10 years difference in age), perhaps there is a place beside him unmarked?

Guthery, J. W. Jr. died Jan. 04, 1924, 3 days old, Pneumonia (Henne & Meyer Undertaker). When I mentioned things wrong on death certificates such as the spelling of Yoahum... Other people than family sometimes turned this information in and they spelled things as they sounded. I feel that J. W. Guthery Jr. probably falls into that same category as I see several other Guthries' entered on your list. He must be a Guthrie!

Howard, Mary F. : buried 1886  1st wife of John Marion Yoakum, d/o Wm & Mary M. Howard

Mar, Ruthie Dee : buried 1901 w/o John Douglass Yoakum

Miller, L died Jan 19, 1924, Male, from Rockdale, originally from GA, 93 yrs old, Hemorrhage, (Henne & Meyer Undertaker).

Snodgrass, Ila Mae; died May 8, 1933, in Pct 4, Rockdale, premature infant, Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home and shows buried at Sandow Cemetery. Parents may be listed on death certificate but not shown here.

Another one listed as buried in Millerton, "Texas" that I think might be in error as I do not know of a Millerton, TX. The lady was from a Thorndale address and several in this cemetery were from there as it is nearby. Some lived in the area west of Cemetery and had Thorndale addresses. She is probably in Freezeout (Millerton) She is:

Spears, Elizabeth Minerva: died Feb 24, 1925, age 77, widow fr. Alabama, of pneumonia.

Yoakum, Foster Sam : note, information from Marie Hubert, Milam County Genealogy Society: "I show a death certificate for a Sam Yoakum Sr. who died Dec 5, 1930. Only one listed with similar name through 1935. The burial location shows just "country" as place buried. He was "abt 77", married and died from Apoplexy. Certificate # 361, Vol. 3, pg 361. " SO! Maybe he is not in Freezeout!

Yoakum/Yocum, John Marion : died 23 January 1916 - buried 24 January 1916 note: "John Marion Yoakum was evidently spelled incorrectly on death certificate as Yocum. He died Jan 23, 1916, was 77 years old and a widower, had been a farmer. Looks like he died of the "Grippe" ( "la grippe" was the word used) If someone wants that death certificate it is listed as Yocum Vol 2, page 3, #1976. author note: My g-grandmother also used Yocum as did many other family members.

There is always a possibility that material could be transcribed incorrectly but all was "proofed" at the court house using original certificates of death. Our Genealogy Society prepares and sells 2 Death Records books of Milam County for the years 1903-1920 and 1921-1935.  Marie Hubert <[email protected]>
