Bicentennial

Adair County was "cut" from Green County and founded as the 44th county in the Commonwealth on December 11, 1801 and named for General John Adair, a distinguished soldier who played a prominent role in numerous campaigns against the Indians north of the Ohio River.

June 28, 1802, the Public Square of Columbia was established, as laid off by Daniel Trabue, Creed Haskins, and William Caldwell, to permanently fix a seat of justice and a place for erecting buildings and holding court in Adair County.

As a tribute to the Bicentennial, Columbia is celebrating a new festival,
"Folklore of the Old West"
The festival will emphasize the western and pioneer eras of our past with these events.
