A History of Adair County
by Judge Rollin Hurt

A brief history of the History...
Back in 1919, Judge Hurt wrote a series of articles for the local newspaper detailing the history of the county as he knew it.  It was written under the alias John Avroe Steele.  Judge Hurt was the grandson of William Hurt, who came to this county in the latter part of the 1700's and was a prominent member of the community.  Much of this history is written from the knowledge of the early settlers of Columbia/Adair County, supplemented by the research of Judge Hurt.  It is believed to be fairly accurate, and it certainly entertaining regardless of its "provability".  These writings were published in a book called the History of Adair County by Michael Watson.
