James Adderley, 1700s, Shropshire/Cheshire England

James Adderley, 1700s, Shropshire/Cheshire England

James Adderley was reportedly a soldier in the Battle of Waterloo. Not much is known yet about him, except that he had at least seven children, the youngest of whom is William Adderley, born 1774 in Salop.

William Adderley married twice and had four children with his first unknown wife and another five with Martha Dyke. After being widowed twice, he moved to Congleton, Chesire.

Most of the information on this tree comes through William's eldest son, John Adderley, born 1828 who married a widow. He had a stepdaughter -- a Mrs. Sarah Copeland -- who lived at 30 Laura Street, Crewe, England, and who sent information on this branch to a William J. Adderley of Wakefield, England. William J. Adderley corresponded regularly throughout the early 20th Century with Mr. John Henry Adderley, late of New York City, New York, USA, and together the two compiled a great deal of information about the various ADDERLEY families from a variety of family members and, to a lesser extent, various genealogical sources. Their information was amazingly accurate, and much of it has since been verified with primary sources.
