Adderleys of County Down, Ireland, 1800s

Adderleys of County Down, Ireland, 1800s

Information on this family comes from correspondence between William J. Adderley and Mr. John Henry Adderley, late of New York City, New York, USA, who wrote regularly throughout the early 20th Century. Together, they compiled a great deal of information about the various ADDERLEY families from a variety of family members and, to a lesser extent, various genealogical sources. Their information was amazingly accurate, and much of it has since been verified with primary sources.

This line begins with an unknown Adderley who had two sons, one of whom is known to be John Adderley. John had at least four children, two girls and two boys - William, Ann, John and Margaret.

Correspondence indicates that William died before 1850 in Newry, near Armagh, Ireland. There are many mentions of the ADDERLEY name on various websites in the Armagh area. Ann reportedly married a Mr. Bullock Evansville, Indiana in the U.S.A. John is reported to have died in New Brunswick, Canada. Margaret married a George Ross and is said to have had up to 10 children. They lived in Rathfriland, Co. Down. She died after 1894.
