Research notes indicate that John's eldest son Thomas "came over to Ireland with the British troops at the close of the [Napoleonic] War on the continent on or about 1810 to 1815." It further states that the troops were stationed at Moville, Co. Donegal. After discharge he returned to Ireland--Lissan House, Tatnagilty, Tyrone--as a gardener. He rented a farm in Cluntyganey, near Cookstown, County Tyrone.

In addition, John's second son John was born and buried in Gnosall, Staffordshire, England and research notes indicate he had at least two sons who were also born there.
