5 November 1751 - He was from Horsley when he married Mary Wyer in Bisley parish church, Gloucestershire (see parish register BTs).

Bisley Parish Church

He was a broadweaver and lived in Horsley, Gloucestershire.
18 February 1767 - He made his last will and testament (see copy).
11 April 1767 - He added a codicil to his will.
C 1784/85 - He died.
11 January 1785 - His will was proved "before the worshipful James Benson Doctor of Laws Vicar General in spiritual of the Right Revd. Father in God Samuel by divine permission Lord Bishop of the diocese of Gloucester and his episcopal consistory official principal…"

MARY HESKINS (NÉE WIRE (WYRE)) (daughter of James Wire)

28 March 1731 - She was baptised in Bisley parish church (see parish register BTs).
5 November 1751 - She married Francis Heskins in Bisley parish church (see parish register BTs).
18 February 1767 - In his will (not proved until 11 January 1785), her husband Francis left her the sum of £20 payable over three years as well as "all the household goods that I had with her".
1792 - A Mary Heskins was buried at Shortwood Baptist Church (NBI).

JOHN HESKINS (son of Francis and (?) Heskins)

C 1741/42 - He was born.
? - He married (?).
19 May 1775 - "On which day appeared personally John HESKINS of the parish of Horsley in the County and Diocese of Gloucester, clothier, and being sworn by the holy evangelist made oath that he is of the age of thirty three years and upwards and a widower and that he intends to marry with Mary BLISS of the parish of Minchinhampton in the county and diocese of Gloucester , spinster, aged twenty eight years and upwards and that he knoweth of no lawful lett or impediment by reason of any pre-contract consanguinate affinity or any other lawful cause whatsoever to hinder the said intended marriage, and that he prayed a licence to solemnize the said marriage in the parish church of Minchinhampton aforesaid in which said parish of Minchinhampton the said John HESKINS further made oath that the said Mary BLISS hath had her usual abode for the space of four weeks last past.

15 April 1818 - In his role as sole executor of his brother Joseph’s will, he was sworn before Charles Palmer senior.
9 March 1822 - He was a clothier from Nailsworth when he witnessed the will of William Winterbotham, a dissenting minister from Newmarket in the parish of Horsley (transription of will).
25 July 1824 - A John Heskins aged 79 was buried at Shortwood Baptist Church (info from Janet Heskins 8/9/05).

MARY HESKINS (NÉE BLISS) (daughter of Edward and Mary Bliss)

C 1746/47 - She was born (based on age on marriage allegation).
19 May 1775 - She was aged about 28 (marriage allegation info from Janet Heskins 5/10/05).
6 July 1775 - She married John Heskins in Minchinhampton parish church (Gloucester Genealogy web-site and see parish register).
1812 - She was buried at Shortwood Baptish Church as Mary Bliss Heskins (NBI Index).

JOSEPH HESKINS (son of Francis and Mary Heskins)

9 September 1744 - He married Margaret Erwin in Horsley parish church (see parish register BTs).
C 1754 - His son Joseph was born.
1794 - He made his will. He left bequests to his children Joseph, John, Francis (who was his executor), William, George, Betty (Cole), and Ann (Harbutt) (info from Janet Heskins 5/5/03).
6 May 1802 - He was a former yeoman from Hillsley when probate of his will was granted in favour of his executor (his son Francis). He left bequests to his sons William, £20, George, 1/-, and Francis, the residue of his estate (see probate register).

MARGARET HESKINS (NÉE ERWIN

9 September 1744 - She married Joseph Heskins in Horsley parish church (see parish register BTs).

GENERATION 3

JOSEPH HESKINS (son of Joseph Heskins)

C 1754 – He was born (based on age at burial).
1802 - In his father's will, he was left his father’s house and garden along with two adjoining leasehold properties and all his father’s wearing apparel (info from Janet Heskins 13/9/05).
26 November 1817 – He was a clothworker living in Horsley, Gloucestershire when he made his will. (See copy). There is no mention of his wife in his will.
29 December 1817 – He was buried, aged 63, at Shortwood Baptist Church (information from Janet Heskins 16/5/01).
15 April 1818 – His will was proved. He left to his son John two leasehold tenements, gardens and premises situated in Horsley; those occupied by Hannah Gill and those he had previously occupied himself, as well as all the contents of his house at the time of his decease. He left to his daughter Elizabeth Wilkins the properties occupied by Mary Newth and Samuel Walkly (see will).

JOHN HESKINS (son of Joseph Heskins)

1 July 1771 - He was a butcher from Nailsworth in the parish of Horsley in the county of Gloucester when he signed a licence to marry Hannah Pitt. The licence gave his name as Haskins although he signed as Heskins (see marriage licence).
2 July 1771 - He was from Horsley in the county of Gloucester when he married Hannah Pitt in the parish church at Hankerton, Wilts by licence. He was shown as John Haskins although he signed his name as John Heskins (see parish register).
C 1775/76 - Their daughter Sarah was born in Horsley (see 1851 census).
4 December 1780 - In the will of Joseph Pitt he was left "the bed, bedstead and every thing thereto belonging lying in the little chamber next by the best chamber.
C 1780/81 - Their son Francis was born (based on his age at death).
14 April 1781 - He was a joint executor of the will of his wife's Uncle, Joseph Pitt.
1789/90 - Their son Thomas was born (based on his age at death).
20 May 1790 - Their son Charles was born (see Upper Forest Green chapel register).
1802 - In his father's will, he was left the house, garden and orchard where Isaac Wakefield lived (info from Janet Heskins 13/9/05).
17 May 1803 - He was present when his daughter Sarah Hooper was granted the administration of her late husband’s estate. He made his mark on the document (see administration documents). 15 April 1818 - He inherited from his father two leasehold tenements, gardens and premises situated in Horsley; those occupied by Hannah Gill and those previously occupied by his father, as well as all the contents of his house at the time of his decease.
C 1828 - He died.
1 November 1828 - Letters of administration for his estate valued at under £200 were granted at Gloucester (see copy).

HANNAH HESKINS (NÉE PITT) (daughter of Samuel and Mary Pitt)

2 July 1771 - She signed the register when she married John Heskins by licence in the parish church at Hankerton, Wiltshire (see parish register).
1 November 1828 - She was appointed at Gloucester, along with James Clarke, a clothier of Horsley and Charles Avery Moore, gentleman, of Dursley, as an executor of her late husband's estate (see administration documents).
23 September 1833 - A Hannah Heskins aged 83 was buried at Shortwood Baptist Chapel (info from Janet Heskins 7/9/02).

WILLIAM HESKINS (son of Joseph Heskins)

29 October 1777 - He was a scribbler when he married Elizabeth Chapman in Horsley parish church. The witnesses were John Harbutt and Jonathan Cole (see parish register).
11 January 1785 - He inherited from his grand father Francis Heskins "all that cottage tenement wherein Richard Ricketts now dwelleth" (in 1767) "with the garden thereto…"
6 May 1802 - Probate was granted to his father's will in which he was left £20 (see probate register).

ELIZABETH HESKINS (NÉE CHAPMAN)

29 October 1777 - She married William Heskins in Horsley parish church (see parish register).

ELIZABETH COLE (NÉE HESKINS) (daughter of Joseph Heskins)

3, 10 & 17 September 1775 - The banns for her proposed marriage to Jonathan Cole were published in Horsley parish church (see parish register).
28 September 1775 - She was a spinster from Horsley when she married Jonathan Cole in Horsley parish church. She made her mark in the register (see parish register).
6 October 1776 - She was in attendance at the birth of Elizabeth daughter of John and Ann Herbert (Dr William's Library non-conformist events info from Janet Heskins 5/5/03).
11 January 1785 - She inherited from her grand father Francis Heskins "one cottage or tenement adjoining the last mentioned cottage or tenement" (i.e. the one inherited by William -see above)) "wherein William Lewis now (in 1767) "liveth…"
1802 - In her father's will, she received his best bed and all its bedding (info from Janet Heskins 13/9/05).
1835 - An Elizabeth Cole was buried at Shortwood Baptist church (NBI).

JONATHAN COLE (son of Jonathan and Sarah Cole)

13 January 1754 - He and his sister Hester were baptised in Horsley parish church (see parish register BTs).
3, 10 & 17 September 1775 - The banns for his proposed marriage to Elizabeth Heskins were published in Horsley parish church (see parish register).
28 September 1775 - He was a weaver from Horsley when he married Elizabeth Heskins in Horsley parish church. He signed the register (see parish register).
? - His son George was born.
29 October 1777 - He was a witness to the wedding of William Heskins and Elizabeth Chapman in Horsley parish church (info from Janet Heskins 5/5/03).

18 September 1809 - His daughter Ann married Charles Rudder in Horsley parish church (see parish register).

12 June 1826 - He was a weaver from Horsley when he signed his will. He appointed his son George as his sole executor. He appointed his brother William and nephew Joseph Heskins as trustees.
14 July 1826 - He was a member of Shortwood Baptist church when he was buried aged 76 in their burial ground (info from Elizabeth Jack 19/12/06).
26 October 1826 - Probate was granted to his will. He left everything to his son George, including his leasehold estate in Walkley wood, Horsley, his tools and cash. He left 1/- to his daughter Anne Ruthers (?) (see will).

10 May 1790 - He was summoned to the Fleece Inn Sessions, being paid one shilling for having to leave his work to honour the appointment. Jane WINDOW was also summoned to the sessions and paid one shilling. George and Jane were both examined with respect of Jane having borne George's child (info from Janet Heskins 9/5/03).
1795 - Jane was receiving a payment of four shillings under a bastardy order (info from Janet Heskins 9/5/03).
6 May 1802 - Probate was granted to his father's will in which he was left 1/- (see probate register).

CATHERINE HESKINS (NÉE (?))

C 1753 - She was born (based on age at burial).
? - She married George Heskins.
2 May 1789 - She and her children received a shilling parish relief (info from Janet Heskins 9/5/03).
April 1790 - She was paid sixpence by the parish for a coffin and worsted for her child's funeral. Presumably she had already separated from George at this stage as she was receiving an additional payment of one shilling (info from Janet Heskins9/5/03).
30 May 1790 - She received an extra sixpence for her lodging (info from Janet Heskins 9/5/03).
Until at least April 1796 - Two guineas were sent to George HESKINS' wife and family at Salisbury. Various letters from Salisbury were paid for on receipt. Payments were being sent to Salisbury until at least April 1796 (info from Janet Heskins 9/5/03).
1806 - She received a payment from the parish. No mention was made of any children (info from Janet Heskins 9/5/03).
1811 - She was lodging in Horsley. She had "two sons absent" (info from Janet Heskins 9/5/03).
2 May 1813 - She was from Horsley when she was buried aged 60 at Horsley parish church (see parish register).

FRANCIS HESKINS (son of Joseph Heskins)

C 1758/59 - He was born (based on age at burial).
? - He married Mary (?).
11 January 1785 - He inherited from his grand father Francis Heskins "all that my tenement or dwelling house with garden and one orchard lying above the said tenement in Walkly Wood aforesaid now" (in 1767) "in the possession of Edward Kemish…"
He was a carpenter.
1802 - As part if the will of his father Joseph, he received the new house lately built by his grandfather Francis, the land formerly James Antill’s, the great house where Thomas Weaving was living, and the two properties adjoining the middle orchard providing he paid sixty pounds principal momey and interest due on the property, the residue of the estate goods and chattels (info from Janet Heskins 13/9/05).
6 May 1802 - He was from Hillsley when probate was granted in his favour as sole executor of his father's will in which he was left the residue of the estate (see probate register).
C 1802 - His daughter Ann was born (based on age at burial).

SARAH CLAYFIELD FORMERLY HOOPER (NÉE HESKINS) (daughter of John and Hannah Heskins)

C 1776 - She was born in Horsley, Gloucestershire (see 1851 census).
10 June 1796 - She signed her name when she married William Hooper in Horsley parish church. John Heskins was a witness (see parish register).
17 May 1803 – “On which day appeared personnally Sarah Hooper and alleged thet William Hooper late of the parish of Nailsworth in the County and Diocese of Gloucester clothworker lately died intestate and that she the said Sarah Hooper was and is the natural and lawful widow of the said deceased. Whereof she prayed that the administration of all and singular goods chattelles and xcredits of the said deceased might be granted and committed to her on giving such good and sufficient and security as in this behalf is required and so forth –“. The value of the estate was less than £100 (see administration document).
15 July 1804 - She was a widow when she married John Clayfield in Horsley parish church. She signed the register (see parish register).
? January 1810 - She received a Militia payment of £0-15s-0d (info from Janet Heskins 21/8/02).
6 June 1841 - She was living (probably lodging), aged 60 (rounded), with (her husband) John in Lower Castle St, St Philip and Jacob, Bristol (see 1841 census).
30 March 1851 - She was a (former) burler aged 75, on parish relief and living in Sym Lane, Wotton-under-Edge with her husband John (see 1851 census).
5 December 1856 - She died aged 80, "of old age, not certified" at Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire. Her husband John was present at her death (death certificate).

WILLIAM HOOPER (son of William and Elizabeth Hooper)

10 June 1796 - He was from Woodchester when he married Sarah Heskins in Horsley parish church. He signed the register (see parish register).
(?) March 1797 - Their daughter Hester was baptised in Nailsworth parish church (info from Janet Heskins 4/7/04).
27 October 1799 - Their daughter Elizabeth was baptised in Nailsworth parish church (info from Janet Heskins 4/7/04).
27 December 1802 - He signed his name when he was a witness to the wedding of Francis Heskins and Sarah Evans in Horsley parish church (see parish register).
2 June 1802 - Their daughter Martha was baptised in Horsley parish church (see parish register).

15 July 1804 - He married the widowed Sarah Hooper in Horsley parish church. He signed the register (see parish register).
23 February 1806 - Their son Edward was baptised in Horsley parish church (see parish register).
January 1810 - He was in the Militia (info from Janet Heskins 21/8/02).
1 October 1815 - He signed the register when he was a witness at to the wedding of Charles Heskins and Hannah Stephens in Horsley parish church (see parish register).
6 June 1841 - He was a commercial t (traveller?) aged 54 living (probably lodging), with (his wife) Sarah in Lower Castle St, St Philip and Jacob, Bristol (see 1841 census).
30 March 1851 - He was a former carding engineer aged 70, on parish relief and living in Sym Lane, Wotton Under Edge with his wife Sarah (see 1851 census).
5 December 1856 - He was present at the death of his wife, Sarah, and notified the registrar the same day (SC's death certificate).
26 December 1857 - He was a former carding engine engineer when he died aged 76 in Wotton Under Edge of diarrhea (7 days) and exhaustion. John Davis of Wotton Under Edge, who had been present at his death, advised the registrar (death certificate).
31 December 1857 - He was from Bradley St when he was buried aged 75 at Wotton-Under-Edge parish church (see parish register).

FRANCIS HESKINS (son of John and Hannah Heskins)

C 1781 - He was born (based on age at death).
27 December 1802 - He married Sarah Evans in Horsley parish church. The witnesses were William Hooper and John Heskins (see parish register).
? - Their son Henry Matthew was born (info from Janet Heskins 5/3/14).
1815 - His son Henry Matthew was apprenticed to him as a brushmaker (info from Janet Heskins 5/3/14).
Friday 7 March 1828 - The London Gazette reported that the partnership between F and H M Heskins, brushmakers of Wootten-under-Edge, had been dissolved (see Cobbett's Weekly Political Register dated Saturday 15 March 1828).
17 February 1830 - He was a journeyman brushmaker from Wotton-under-Edge when he was to apply to the courthouse at Gloucester to be discharged from insolvency (see London Gazette dated 26 January 1830 and Perry's Bankrupt and Insolvent Gazette dated Saturday 13 February 1830).
6 June 1841 - He was a brushmaker aged 50 (rounded) living in Oldham Place Clerkenwell, with (his wife) Sarah, Henry Heskins aged 35 (rounded), (Henry’s wife) Maryan aged 30 (rounded), and (Henry and Ann’s children) Fanny aged 9, Sarah aged 7, Maryan aged 3 and Clara aged 1 (see 1841 census).
2 September 1841 - He was a brushmaker living at 12 Kirby St, Hatton Garden, Holborn when he registered the death of his wife Sarah (info from Janet Heskins 25 & 27/2/14).
3 February 1842 - He was a brushmaker and a widower of full age living at 109 St Johns Street Road, Shoreditch when he married Sarah Teakell in St Leonards parish church, Shoreditch. He signed the register. His father John was a butcher (see parish register).
20 August 1847 - He was a brushmaker aged 66 when he died in Witham from bronchitis (5 days) (death certificate held).
24 August 1847 - Ann Brown from Witham who had been present at his death notified the registrar (death certificate held).
24 August 1847 - He was from Witham when he was buried aged 66 at Witham parish church, Essex (see parish register).

SARAH HESKINS (NÉE EVANS)

C 1774/75 - She was born (based on age at death).
27 December 1802 - She married Francis Heskins in Horsley parish church (see parish register).
6 June 1841 - Aged 60 (rounded), she was living in Oldham Place, Amwell, Clerkenwell, with (her husband) Francis, Henry Heskins, (Henry’s wife) Maryan, and (Henry and Ann’s children) Fanny, Sarah, Maryan and Clara (see 1841 census).
1 September 1841 - She died of consumption aged 66 at 12 Kirby St, Hatton Garden, Holborn (info from Janet Heskins 25/2/14).
5 September 1841 - She was a grown person from St Andrew's, Holborn when she was buried (see Countess of Huntingdons Connexion, Spa Fields, St James, Clerkenwell register).
September qtr 1841 – Her death was registered in Holborn (info from Janet Heskins 7/11/06).

SARAH HESKINS (formerly TEAKLE NÉE ANTILL) (daughter of John Antill, a weaver)

C 1785/86 - She was born in Stroud Water, Gloucestershire (see 1851 census).
24 (sic), 21 & 28 August 1803 - The banns of her proposed marriage to Isaac Teakle were published in Minchinhampton parish church (see parish register).
17 October 1803 - She was from the parish when she married Isaac Teakle in Minchinhampton parish church. She made her mark in the register (see parish register).
6 June 1841 - She was living in Great Cambridge St, St Leonards, Shoreditch (see 1841 census): -

3 February 1842 - She was a widow of full age living at 109 St Johns Street Road, Shoreditch when she married Francis Heskins in St Leonards parish church, Shoreditch. She made her mark in the register (see parish register).
9 November 1849 - She entered the tap room of the Swan public house at Witham and sat by the fire. She was partly intoxicated. She noticed some books left by another customer who had temporarily left the room. She put them in her basket that had a lid on it and left the public house. They were later found in her room by PC Archer. She initially claimed that the books were hers, then she said that they had been given to her by an old man in a pub, and finally that she had taken them, but innocently (see the Chelmsford Chronicle dated 30 November 1849).
Tuesday 27 November 1849 - She was a widow aged 64 when she appeared in the Essex Crown Court charged with stealing books valued at 2/- from Edward Coveney at Witham on 9 November last. Her defence stated that she was in the habit of getting into liquor and might have taken them without knowing what she was doing. She was found guilty and sentenced to two months imprisonment with hard labour. The court advised that the latter part of the sentence was merely a formality (see the Chelmsford Chronicle dated 30 November 1949).
Evening of Tuesday 2 July 1850 - She was intoxicated when she returned to her home at Nott's Yard, Witham, Essex. She accidentally set fire to her bed. 13 June 1840 - The sale or letting of the Boot Inn at Horsley, with stables, outbuildings, garden and appurtenances and also a piece of lane of about ¾ of an acre separated from the premises by the turnpike road was advertised in the local press. The purchaser would be required to take the stock on the premises at a fair valuation (see Gloucester Journal dated 13 June 1840).
Between 5 and 7 o’clock Thursday 2 July 1840 - The Boot Inn at Horsley including outhouses, stable and office, occupied by Thomas Heskins, and a piece of pasture land opposite the said premises and separated from it by the turn-pike road with the adjoining garden containing together about 1 ½ acres were to be sold by auction at the premises. The premises were desirably situated for a business and were in good condition (see Gloucester journal dated 27 June 1840).
1841 - The Tithe Map shows that he owned two small plots of land in the centre of Horsley and rented two larger fields away from the centre of the village.

30 March 1851- He was a shop boy aged 19 living at 5 Manchester Terrace, Hampstead, London. He was living with a family called Humphries. Also living in the same house was a William Furley, also from Gloucestershire (see 1851 census).
7 May 1855 - He was a butcher aged 23 living in Temple, Bristol when he married Emma Maria Organ at Temple Parish Church (marriage certificate).
November 1855 - Their son Edwin George Samuel was born (see parish register).
20 January 1856 - He was a butcher from Bread St when their son Edwin George Samuel, aged 8 weeks, was baptised in St Philip and Jacob parish church, Bristol (see parish register).
10 May 1857 - Their son John Thomas was baptised in Holy Trinity parish church, Bristol (BVRI).
13 October 1859 - Their daughter Eliza Ann was born (see parish register).

6 June 1841 - Aged 10, she was living in White Hart Gardens, Batheaston with (her parents) William, an agricultural labourer aged 30 (rounded) and Martha aged 30 (rounded), and (her sisters) Jane aged 7, Emma aged 3, and Matilda aged 1. Three railway labourers were living with her and several more lived nearby (the railway from London to Bristol was nearing completion at this time) (see 1841 census).
30 March 1851 - She was a servant aged 20 working for Thomas and Rebecka Fisher and family at 13 Beaufort Buildings West, Walcot (see 1851 census).

29 October 1917 - He was a retired provision merchants warehouseman living at 61 Oxford St, The Dings, St Philips, Bristol when he made his last will (see will).
13 January 1918 - He died at 61 Oxford St, Bristol, aged 62 years, on of villous carcinoma of the bladder (death certificate).
He was buried in grave number 326 Green B of Greenbank Cemetery, Bristol. His wife Sarah Ann, his daughter Emma Hudson and her husband Henry William Hudson were buried later in the same grave (e-mail from Linda Britton, Bristol City Council 15 February 2005).
27 April 1918 - Probate was granted in Bristol to his executors, his wife Sarah Anne Heskins and Charles henry Blackwell, an auctioneer (see will and probate). His estate was worth £2842 14s 2d gross and £122 9s 9d net

He appointed his wife, Sarah Ann Heskins and Charles Henry Blackwell, a solicitor, as his executors.

To his daughter Edith Ann Parry, wife of Oswell Thomas Parry, of 172 Nantygarrow Rd, Caerphilly, Glamorgan, he left the freehold dwellings of 6 and 7 William St, Sussex St, St Phillips, Bristol.

To his son, Edwin Lewis Heskins of Eden Cottage, Brook Rd, Fishponds, Bristol, he left the freehold dwelling houses of 8 William St and 11 Barton Vale, St Phillips.

To his daughter, Emma Hudson, wife of Henry Hudson, of 5 Ayers Buildings, Commercial Rd, Redcliffe, Bristol, he left the freehold dwellings of 9 and 10 Barton Vale, St Phillips.

To his wife, Sarah Ann Heskins, he left the freehold dwelling houses of 61 Oxford St and 15 Queen Victoria St, Kingsland Rd, St Phillips plus furniture, personal estate and the proceeds from the sale of a number of other houses.

7 p.m. Thursday 15 August 1918 - An auction of his 22 freehold and long leasehold properties was to be held at the White Hart Hotel, Old Market St, Bristol. Lot (1) included the six leasehold properties of 2, 3, 4 and 5 Alma Place and 11 and 13 Union Rd (formerly 1 and 6 Alma Place) let at weekly rents amounting to £1-4/- per week £62-8/- per annum, as well as two small sheds. This lot was held for the residue of a term of 900 years from 29 September 1823 and was subject to a yearly rent of £4. Lots (2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7) included six freehold dwelling houses, numbers 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 & 13 Barton Vale, St Philip's let to Messrs Trace, Ashman, Bell, Alford, Williams and Perry, numbers 3, 5, 7 & 9 at 5/- per week each and 11 & 13 at 3/6d and 3/3d respectively. These lots were free from ground rent. Lot (8) included that modern-built freehold house known as 55 Barton Vale occupied by Mr Brooks at a rent of 5/- per week. This lot was free from ground rent. Lot (9) included the leasehold dwelling house known as 8 William St, near Kingsland Rd, St Philip's in the occupation of Mr Hunt at a rent of 5/6d per week. This lot was held for the residue of a term of 1000 years from the 24 June 1848 subject to an apportioned ground rent of £1-10/- part of a larger ground rent charged upon this and other properties. Lots (10), (11), (12), (13) & (14) included five freehold dwelling houses known as 43, 45, 47, 55 & 57 Oxford St in The Dings, St Philip and Jacob, Bristol in the respective occupations of Messrs Childs, Gardener, Appleton, Board and Ford, numbers 43, 45, 47 & 55 at a rent of 4/3d per week and number 57 at 6/3d per week. These lots were free from ground rent. Lot (15) included three freehold dwelling houses known as 49, 51 & 53 Oxford St, St Philip's let to Messrs Musgrove, Davies and Lowe respectively, numbers 49 at 5/- per week, and numbers 51 and 53 at 3/6d per week each. This property was to be sold free from ground rent but subject as to 49 to a lease thereof which was to expire on 29 September 1929 but with the benefit of the apportioned yearly rent of £1-11/-, part of a larger rent of £3-8s-6d charged by the lease on this and other property. Lots 10 to 15 all face the GWR . The mines and minerals under all the lots are reserved. All the above-mentioned properties had been kept in a very good repair (see The Western Daily Press dated 12 August 1918).

She was to inherit his two freehold properties at 61 Oxford St and 15 Queen Victoria St, Kingsland Rd, St Philips, his furniture etc as well as the receipts from the sale of various other properties after the payment of all legal etc expenses and mortgages (see will and probate).
15 March 1940 - She was living at 15 Queen Victoria St, St Phillips, Bristol, when she notified the registrar of the death of her sister-in-law Florence Heskins (FH's death certificate).
6 January 1944 - She died at home. She died intestate and her son Edwin Lewis Heskins was granted letters of administration. Her estate amounted to £555 11s 6d (£329 2s 0d nett). Estate duty amounted to £10 12s 1d.
She was buried in grave number 326 Green B of Greenbank Cemetery, Bristol. Her husband, her daughter Emma Hudson and her daughter's husband Henry William Hudson were buried in the same grave (e-mail from Linda Britton, Bristol City Council 15 February 2005).

Late Saturday night 20 October 1883 - He was found drunk and making a disturbance along with George Fisher and John Bennett in Minchinhampton by PC Thomas. They refused to go away and PC Thomas was assaulted and the three men escaped (see The Bristol Mercury and Post Saturday 27 October 1883).
Thursday 25 October 1883 - He, along with George Fisher and John Bennett, appeared in court at the Nailsworth Petty Sessions charged with assaulting PC Thomas the previous Saturday. Having offered no defence, he was found guilty of assault and was committed for three months whilst Fisher and Bennett, who had claimed merely to be onlookers, were fined (see The Bristol Mercury and Post Saturday 27 October 1883).
5 April 1891 - He was an inmate and a lunatic aged 30 living in Bristol workhouse (see 1891 census).
Saturday 24 September 1892 - He was from Bristol when he appeared at Warminster police court charged that on 8 September he stole a pair of trucks valued at 30/-, the property of Edward Pike of Heytesbury. He had been “on the tramp” with an old dilapidated pair of trucks and when passing through Heytesbury had seen the prosecutor’s trucks, which were more valuable than his own, beside the road, and had made an exchange without first consulting Mr Pike on the matter. Information was at once given to the police and the prisoner was traced to Thornbury where he was apprehended on Thursday by the Bristol police. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 14 days imprisonment (see The Bristol Mercury Monday 26 September 1892).

2 April 1911 - W.H.H, a single general labourer aged 47 born in Bristol was an inmate of the Bristol Workhouse at Eastville (see 1911 census).

Her mother died when she was 4 and her father's cousin, Annie Maria Sparrow became her guardian until she reached the age of 21. After her mother died, she went from one relation to another. Whilst playing she fell down some steps and damaged her back. The children she was playing with didn't say that she had fallen and the adults thought she was crying for her mother. She grew to about 4'10" - 5' 0" tall and with an increasing hump on her back as she grew older. (See photograph). She never married. She died in a house fire in Cheltenham, aged 95, in early 1980 (see extract from newspaper). (Information from Wendy Manning 11/8/00).

18 December 1911 - He was a railway porter living at 9 Clive St, Caerphilly when he registered the birth of his daughter Louisa was born (LH's birth certificate).
December qtr 1913 - The birth of their daughter Marjorie L was registered in Bristol (GRO ref 6a 298).
1914-18 War - He had injured his leg playing football so he did not serve in WW1. He worked for W D & H O Wills (the cigarette manufacturers) (info from Wendy Manning 11/8/00).
13 January 1918 - He was present at the death of his father at 61 Oxford St, Bristol (ESGH's death certificate).
14 January 1918 - He advised the registrar of the death of his father (ESGH's death certificate).
27 April 1918 - He was living at Eden Cottage, Brook Rd, Fishponds, Bristol when he was left two freehold properties at 8 William St, Sussex St and 11 Barton Vale, St Philips, Bristol, in his father’s will (see ESGH’s will).
4 July 1924 - He was an inspector employed by the British Automatic Company when he gave evidence at Long Ashton Petty Session against William George Harding who had been charged with breaking open automatic machines and stealing their contents at Green Beach, Clevedon. Edwin stated that he had found a machine in the alcove with it's drawer smashed and no money in it. An attempt had also been made to force open another drawer but without success. He estimated the cost of the damage was £2 and that the stock of sweets and cash amounting to 10/9d was missing (see Western Daily Press dated 5 July 1924).
16 September 1929 - He was of full age, a widower and an engineer mechanic of 35 Brook Road, Fishponds when he married Valinda Millicent Annie Court, at St Mary's Church, Fishponds, Bristol (info from Janet Heskins 4/9/00).
1930 - He was living at 35 Brook Rd, Fishponds (1930 Kell's Directory info from Reg Harris 13/9/03).
19 December 1934 - He was a witness to the wedding of his daughter Marjorie Louise Heskins to Henry Ernest Rowe in the Parish Church of St Paul, Bedminster, Bristol.
He kept a petshop, Bowrings Stores, in Gloucester Rd, Bristol (info from Wendy Manning 11/8/00). (See photograph of the shop).
February 1944 - he was living at 360 Gloucester Rd, Bishopston, Bristol. Letters of administration were granted for him to settle the estate of his mother, Sarah Ann, who had died intestate.
19 April 1952 - He died aged 64 in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, of cerebral haemorrhage and acute myetoid leukaemia (death certificate).
6 October 1952 - Probate was granted in Bristol to his widow, Millicent. His last address had been 360 Gloucester Rd, Horfield, Bristol. His estate was valued at £4551 15s 2d (see probate index).

23 November 1889 - She was born in St Gabriels School House, St Philip and Jacob, Bristol. Her father was an army pensioner and the caretaker of St Gabriel's School (birth certificate).
1 January 1890 - Her mother, Ann Eliza Honor, late Harley, formerly Parker, of St Gabriel's School House, registered her birth (birth certificate).
5 April 1891 - Aged 1, she was living at St Gabriel's School House, St Philip and Jacob, Bristol, with her parents and brother Thomas. Her father was an army pensioner and school caretaker (see 1891 census).
31 March 1901 - Aged 11, she was living in St Gabriel's Rd, St Gabriel, Bristol with her parents and siblings John T, William H and Edwin J. Her father, born in Ireland, was a school caretaker and a pensioner (see 1901 census).
25 December 1909 - She married Edwin Lewis Heskins (info from Wendy Manning 11 August 2000).
2 April 1911 - Aged 21, she was living with her husband and two boarders at 9 Clive St, Caerphilly, Glamorgan (see 1911 census and table above).
