C 1754 - He was born (based on age at burial).
18 November 1784 - He obtained a licence to marry Elizabeth Morris from the Bishop of Sarum (see copy). He was from Calne when he married Elizabeth Morris by licence in Chippenham parish church. He made his mark in the register (see parish register).
1794 - Their daughter Elizabeth was supposedly born (see parish register).
C 1799/1800 - His daughter Elizabeth was born in Calne (1861 census transcription and ED's marriage certificate).
26 December 1808 - He was a sand carrier when their daughter Elizabeth was baptised in Calne parish church (see parish register).
19 February 1836 - A William Dix from Calne was buried aged 82 at Calne parish church (se parish register).

6 June 1841 - Aged 50 (rounded), se was living with her husband Thomas and children at Holmes, St George, Bristol (see 1841 census and table above).
30 March 1851 - Aged 64, she living in Marshfield Rd, St George, Bristol, with her husband Thomas and their daughter Charlotte (see 1851 census).
7 April 1861 - Aged 75, she was living with her husband, their daughter Chalotte and their son-in-law Aaron Ablson at Holms Hill, St George (see 1861 census and table above).
2 April 1871 - She was a former market woman aged 83 living with her husband Thomas and her grand-daughter Margaret Watkins at Holmes Hill, St George, Bristol (see 1871 census and table above).
December qtr 1876 - The death of a Susannah Watkins aged 90 was registered in Clifton (GRO ref 6a 65).
20 November 1876 - She was aged 90 when her funeral service took place in St George’s parish church, Bristol (LDS familysearch web-site).

JOHN WATKINS (son of John and Mary Watkins)

C March 1795 - He was born (see parish register BTs).
18 October 1795 - He was baptised in St George’s parish church, Bristol (see parish register BTs).
6 June 1841 - He was a sand carrier aged 40 (rounded) living in Wood St, Calne with Elizabeth, Eliza, Thomas, Robert, George and Mary (see 1841 census).
30 March 1851 - He was an unmarried fish dealer aged 52 living in Curzon St, Calne with Elizabeth Gee and his children Thomas, George and Mary A (see 1851 census).
25 December 1856 - He was a labourer at the time of the wedding of his son Thomas Gee (TG's marriage certificate).
6 April 1860 - He was a farm labourer aged 60 living in Curzon St, Calne, when he married Elizabeth Gee in Castle St Baptist Chapel, Calne. He made his mark in the register (marriage certificate).
7 April 1861 - He was living in Curzon St, Calne (see 1861 census).

30 May 1862 - He travelled to Swindon (see The Berkshire Chronicle dated 7 June 1862).
31 May 1862 - He returned from Swindon with his wife and one of his sons between 9 and 10 in the evening. They were all worse for liquor. His son returned to his own home after putting the horse and donkey into the stable. His wife went straight to bed leaving John in a chair downstairs. At 2 o'clock the next morning, his wife, not finding him in bed, got up and found him lying dead with the upper part of his body on the foot of the stairs. He had injuries to his head and face (see The Berkshire Chronicle dated 7 June 1862). A former labourer, he died, aged 66, in Calne (death certificate).
2 June 1862 - An inquest held in Chippenham, by Wm B Whitmarsh, the Coroner for Wiltshire, found that he had been accidentally killed by falling down stairs whilst in a state of intoxication. He had been found dead (death certificate).
3 June 1862 - Aged 66, he was buried in Calne (see parish register).
5 June 1862 - The registrar received notification of his death from the Coroner (death certificate).

PETER GEE (son of William and Ann Gee)

29 May 1784 - He was born (see parish register).
30 May 1784 - He was baptised in St Mary's parish church, Calne (see parish register).
29 December 1814 - He was living in Calne when he married Elizabeth Dix in St Mary's parish church, Calne. He made his mark in the register. John Savory was one of the witnesses (see parish register).
6 June 1841 - A Peter Gee aged 50 (rounded) was an agricultural labourer living in Studley, Wilts with Patience Wheeler aged 55 (rounded) and Thomas Gregory aged 11 (see 1841 census).
30 March 1851 - He was a married market gardener aged 60 living in Studley with Patience Wheeler, his housekeeper aged 70, and his grand daughter Maria Gregory aged 4 (see 1851 census).
5 October 1856 - He was a market gardener aged 65 when he died in Studley, Calne, of a disease of the liver (12 months) (death certificate).
13 October 1856 - Sarah Gregory, who had been present at his death, notified the registrar (death certificate).

ELIZABETH WATKINS formerly GEE (NÉE DIX) (daughter of William and Elizabeth Dix)

C 1794 - She was supposedly born (see parish register).
C 1799/1800 - She was born in Calne (see 1851 census and marriage certificate).
26 December 1808 - She was baptised in Calne parish church (see parish register).
29 December 1814 - She was living in Calne when she married Peter Gee in St Mary's parish church, Calne. She made her mark in the register (see parish register).
6 June 1841 - She was shown as Elizabeth Watkins aged 40 (rounded) living in Wood St, Calne with John and children (see 1841 census).
30 March 1851 - Aged 50 she was living in Curzon St, Calne with John Watkins and their children. NB her surname was shown as Gee and she was married (see 1851 census).
6 April 1860 - She was a widow aged 60 living in Curzon St, Calne, when she married John Watkins in Castle St Baptist Chapel, Calne. She made her mark in the register (marriage certificate).
7 April 1861 - Aged 61, she was living in Curzon St, Calne with her husband John (see 1861 census).

JAMES SILK (son of James and Elizabeth Silk)

25 March 1827 - He was baptised in St Mary's Parish Church, Calne. His father was a labourer from Calne (see parish register).
6 June 1841 - Aged 10, he was living in Curzon St, Calne with his mother Betty aged 45 (rounded) and his brother Jacob, an agricultural labourer aged 20 (rounded) (see 1841 census).
3 November 1845 - He was a minor and a labourer living in Calne when married Eliza Gee "otherwise" Watkins in St Mary's Parish Church, Calne. He made his mark in the register (see parish register).
13 August 1847 - He was a labourer from Calne when their daughter Emma Brewer was baptised in Calne parish church (see parish register).
11 February 1849 - He was a labourer from Calne when their daughter Elizabeth was (privately?) baptised (see parish register).
6 April 1851 - He was a labourer from Calne when their daughter Elizabeth Matilda was baptised in Calne parish church. Their daughter Elizabeth was also admitted (into the church) (see parish register).

3 April 1881 - He was the boatman aged 54 in charge of the "Express" on the Kennet and Avon canal at Raby Wharf, Bathampton. With him was a Robert Silk aged 25 who was born in Calne (see 1881 census).
5 April 1891 - Aged 66, he was a widower living on his own means in Calne with his daughter Emily A aged 27 and lodgers William and Ernest Newth (?) (see 1891 census).
14 April 1902 - He was a canal bargeman aged 75 when he died of senile decay in Curzon St, Calne. Rachel E Silk, his daughter in law, also of Curzon St, who had been present at his death, advised the registrar (death certificate).
17 April 1902 - He was from Curzon St, Calne and aged 75 when his funeral service was held in Calne parish church (see parish register).

ELIZA SILK (NÉE GEE or WATKINS) (daughter of John Watkins)

C 1826/27 - She was born in Calne (see 1861 census).
6 June 1841 - Aged 15, she was living in Wood St, Calne with her parents and siblings (see 1841 census).
3 November 1845 - She was of full age and living in Calne when she married James Silk in St Mary's Parish Church, Calne. Her name was shown as Eliza Gee otherwise Watkins. She made her mark in the register (see parish register).
30 March 1851 - Aged 28, she was living in Lickhill Rd, Calne with her daughters Emma, aged 3, Elizabeth, aged 2 and Matilda, aged 2 months (see 1851 census).
19 March 1856 - She was living in Wood Dt, Calne, when she registered the birth of their son James. She made her mark in the register (JS's birth certificate).
7 April 1861 - Aged 34, she was living in Wood St, Calne with her husband James and children Emma, Elizabeth, Matilda, Harriet, James, Robert and William (see 1861 census).
2 April 1871 - She was a boatman's wife aged 45 living in Wood St, Calne, with her children Matilda, a washerwoman, aged 20, James, a boat boy, aged 16, Robert, a scholar, aged 13, William, a scholar, aged 11, Emily Ann, a scholar, aged 8, Henry, a scholar, aged 6, and Kate, aged 1 (see 1871 census).
3 April 1881 - Aged 55, she was living in Curzon St, Calne with her children William aged 20, Emily A aged 18, Henry G aged 16 and Kate aged 11 (see 1881 census).
1886 - The death of an Eliza Silk aged 64 was registered in Calne (WRO ref CA/17/260).
5 May 1886 - She was from Calne and aged 64 when her burial service was held at Calne parish church (see parish register).

30 March 1851 - He was a sand carrier aged 20 living in Curzon St, Calne with his parents and siblings (see 1851 census).
25 December 1856 - He was known as Thomas GEE when he married Emma Richens in St Mary's parish church, Calne. He was a bachelor, aged 26, and a sand carrier living in Calne. He made his mark in the register (see parish register).
16 January 1858 - Their son Tom was born in Curzon St, Calne (TG's birth certificate).
16 February 1858 - He was a bacon factory labourer when his wife registered the birth of their son (TG's birth certificate).
5 January 1860 - Their daughter Jane was born in Curzon St, Calne (JG's birth certificate).
16 February 1860 - He was a bacon curer's labourer living in Curzon St, Calne when his wife Emma registered the birth of their daughter Jane (JG's birth certificate).

30 March 1851 - He was a sand carrier aged 17 living in Curzon St, Calne with his parents and siblings (see 1851 census).
15 October 1866 - He and Henry Edwards alias Angell were summoned by Mr Eatwell of Cherhill at the Calne Petty Sessions for having turned nine donkeys into a pasture field at Cherhill in the occupation of Mr Eatwell. George, being the proprietor of the donkeys, was ordered to pay £1 13/6d including costs or one month’s imprisonment and Edwards, 8/6d including costs or seven days imprisonment (see Devizes and Wiltshire Gazette dated 18 October 1866).
31 May 1867 - He was from Calne and the driver of five sand donkeys that were found to be straying on the road by Horton Bridge at 6 o'clock in the evening by a policeman stationed at Bishop's Cannings who found George asleep in the tap room of the Bridge public house. About 9 o'clock the same evening, the policeman went to the village of Bishop's Cannings and found the same donkeys strolling around outside the Crown public house. George, as before, was snugly ensconced in the tap room (see the Devizes and Wiltshire Gazette dated 20 June 1867).
17 June 1867 - He appeared at the Devizes District Petty Sessions charged with allowing his donkeys to stray about on 31 May. He stated that he had had too much to drink but would not let it happen again. The bench declined to trust him and fined him 10s including costs. Since he could only muster 8s he was allowed a week to pay the remainder (see the Devizes and Wiltshire Gazette dated 20 June 1867).
27 June 1868 - The Salisbury and Winchester Journal reported that he had been fined 7/6d plus costs in Bradford on Avon for having been found drunk and incapable on the Frome Rd (see the Salisabury and Winchester Journal dated 27 June 1868).
13 October 1870 - The Devizes and Wiltshire Gazette reported that he had been committed at Calne to Devizes prison for one month for allowing his donkeys to stray on the highway and another week for being drunk and riotous (see Devizes and Wiltshire Gazette dated 13 October 1870).
2 April 1871 - He was an unmarried dealer aged 34 lodging at the Sun Inn, Hungerford, Berkshire (see 1871 census).

25 March 1936 - She was the wife of a factory worker and had been living at 45 Curzon St, Calne, when she was buried, aged 39, in plot G36 of Curzon St cemetery (see burial register).
8 April 1936 - Her will was proved at Winchester. Her estate was valued at £277-14-0 (see probate).
