Elizabeth Bussey
Elizabeth, my direct ancestor, was born about 1776 Wilkes Co. GA and died about 1807 Lincoln Co., GA. She married John Edwards about 1793 Georgia. She was the daughter of Hezekiah Bussey, Sr. and Amy Harry?Sullivan. It is believed that Amy was a Harry and had a brief marriage to a Mr. Sullivan, more research is still needed.
The Buesseys were a well-known family and quite a bit of research has been done on them. Hezekiah was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, serving as a private in the Georgia Troops under Gen. Elijah Clarke and received bounty land along Richland Creek in Washington Co., Ga. for his service. Hezekiah's will is dated March 2, 1796 and his wife Amy, son David, and John Edwards are listed as executors.s. He received 250 acres in Ga. on Feb. 24, 1784 for his service. He left a will, dated 1796, in Lincoln Co, GA-Will Book A, page 1-2

I, John Edwards of the state and Co., above mentioned being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory, praise be to God for the same and being desirous to settle my worldy affairs while last I have strength and capacity to do so, make and publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking and making void all other wills by me heretofore at any time made.
First and principally, I commit my soul unto the hands of my creator who gave it and my body to the earth to be decently interred by my friends and Executors hereinafter named and, as to much of the things of this world as it has been pleased God to entrust me with, I dispose of the same as follows: i.e., having received a considerable part of the property, which I now possess, or the means of obtaining it by my present wife, Sarah Edwards, I consider it not only a duty arising from facts already mentioned but, also, a pleasure for the continued love and affection, to take care that during her life, she may have sufficient to enable her to live independent of the gratuitous assistance of others.
Second: I therefore bequeath to my wife, Sarah Edwards, all property of my estate, both real and personal, to manage and dispose of as she may think proper with this exception. I give and bequeath, at my death, to my son, John Edwards, one negro woman, by the name of Rebecca, which he now has in his possession. I, also give and bequeath to my daughter, Nancy Spear, one negro woman, by the name of Suckey, and her increase, which she now has in her possession. I also give and bequeath to my daughter, Sarah Riddle, one negro woman by the name of Fib, which she now has in her possession. I also give and bequeath to my son, George Edwards, one negro boy by the name of Peter. I also give and bequeath to my son, Charles, one negro man by the name of Mose. I give and bequeath to my daughter, Mariah Edwards, two negro girls, one by the name of Lucy and the other Mary. I also give and bequeath to my daughter, Amy Foster, one negro woman by the name of Old Cate. I also give and bequeath to my son, Benjamin Edwards, at my death, two hundred dollars in cash, and in twelve months thereafter two hundred dollars in cash, and in twelve months thereafter two hundred dollars in cash, making eight hundred dollars to be paid in four annual installments by my executors.
Third: I give and bequeath to my daughter, Mary Landers, and her husband, Luke Landers, the sum of five dollars and no more. I also give and bequeath to my son, Asa Edwards, the sum of five dollars and no more; the two above mentioned bequests of five dollars each, to be in full of their share of my estate hereinafter to be receivable by the persons respectfully named and mentioned in this clause of my will; And to this end, my views and feelings may not be mistaken and this, my last will and testament, may, hereafter, in some degree explain itself, I wish to here mention, as my reason for making the two above triflicing bequests: some years agao, my son-in-law, Luke Landers, by the assistance of others, conveyed away apart of my negroes in the night as his own property without leave or approbation on my part, and the above named, Asa Edwards, took part with them against me. That showed, as I thought, little regard for me or my interest or feelings and put me to much cost and trouble. Yet, without feeling aught of ill will or resentment toward those of my children already mentioned to whom with paternal affection I wish and devise all goods.
Fourth: I appoint my friend, Michael D. Garr, and my son, George Edwards, my Executors, and my wife, Sarah Edwards, my Executrix to execute this, my last will and testament. In witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the tenth day of September in the year of our Lord, One thousand Eight hundred and thirty-eight.
