  1. Dr. Abraham Jobe - Excerpt from Goodspeed's History of East Tennessee, Carter County pg. 1295-6 Dr. Abraham Jobe was born near Elizabethton, Carter County, Tennessee, October 9, 1817, the son of Joshua and Ruth (Tipton) Jobe. The former was born in Washington County before the State of Tennessee was formed on September 15, 1785. He was the son of David Jobe, who emigrated to this new country, about 1777, from Shenandoah County, Virginia. He owned and resided on the farm where Johnson City now stands, and died there about 1799.
