----RANDOLPH D. COPASS - Usually only his initials are used, but in one case, his name was Richard D. Copass. Yes, I'm sure it's the same one, too. (I believe Richard is a mistake) This info comes from copies of his Civil War service papers and from the Civil War Questionnaire of Harvey Chase: He enlisted in Co E. 60th Tenn. Mtd. Infantry on September 25, 1862 at Fordtown, Tennessee. He had the nickname "Lone". Randolph and his brother Van were captured at the battle of "Big Black River Bridge" on May 17, 1863 during the Vicksburg campaign in Mississippi. Since he was an officer, he was sent to Johnson's Island Prison. He died on August 29, 1863 and is buried there.
