Commie, son of Luther D. Jobe/Bittle and Minnie Kate Bennett, was born July 27, 1895 Searcy Co., Arkansas and died September 1973 Hazen, Prairie Co., Arkansas. In 1900 at the age of 4, he is listed with his mother the last name Bittle. His father had disappeared when Commie was quite young. By 1910, his mother had remarried to a James W. VanHouten. Commie, is age 14 and listed as stephson of James with the last name of Bittle. By June 1917 on his World War I Draft Registration, age age 21, he is listed with the last name of VanHouten. By 1930, he is married and is still using the Van Houten surname.
