--Jobe, Hugh S Good Standing Letter (1 of 2) - original of a certificate presented to Hugh S. Jobe 19 Feb 1878 in Washington County, Arkansas (copy attached). Five men who knew him stated that he was “a Straight Honorable high Minded man leading a peaceable moral life: a good Neighbor and a good Citizen.” The men included: A. S. Gregg (circuit clerk 1876 –1884), H. L. Crouch (circuit clerk 1898 –1900), Hiram Davis (county judge 1874 – March 1878), W. F. Dowell, and A. B. Lewis (county treasurer 1872-1874), and the document is certified by P. R Smith, the County Clerk. The document bears the raised seal of Washington County (which does not show up in the scan). I'm not sure what the purpose of this document was, but it appears to me to be a document that was to accompany the bearer to a new community, perhaps to provide credentials Submitted by William F.
