    John William Jobe and Mable Agness Galbreth

  2. --------John William Jobe - John W. Jobe, Enlisted in the army at Jefferson Barracks near St. Louis, November 27, 1916 and served on the Mexican border with Co H 4th Infantry. He fought in major battles at meuse River, Belleau Woods and Chateau-Thierry. On Septmber 5, 1918, John Jobe was I Company's First Sergant and was fighting on the Berdun front, alone alongside his fallen Captian for an hour, when he was likked by intense enemy fire. He was buried on the battfield, then buried at the cemetery at Fismes until brought home and buried for a third time in Crown Hill Cemetery nor part of California City Cemetery. He was the fist soldier to died in WW I from Monteau Co MO and the Amercian Legion Post #17 was named after him. Taken from the Moniteau County History Book 2000.
