William enlisted as a ten-month soldier in the service of the South Carolina State Forces commanded by General Thomas Sumter
William was honorably discharged at a location near Charleston and then made his way back to his home on Sugar Creek in Mecklenburg County
William was granted 200 acres of land in Wilkes Co., GA
William moved to then Sullivan County, Tennessee, where he secured a grant of 300 acres on Reedy Creek-then moved southward into Greene Co., TN (later Jefferson Co.,TN)
William married Miriam Elliott in Greene Co., TN
William granted 50 additional acres of land
William Elliott was granted a Revolutionary War Pension in the amount of 41 dollars and 66 cents per year. This pension and military service record is preserved in the National Archives, Washington, D. C.
