April 10 - Samuel married his cousin Cordelia 'Delia Jackson
According to family tradition, Sam took Delia and the two children to Missouri and left them there, never to return. He returned to Monroe Co.,, Kentucky.
In March 2010, Randy Jobe writes:
The abandonment story about how Sam left Delia in Missouri is needing a second glance...because Delia is washing clothes in Springfield, Missouri shortly after this picture was taken and the kids aren't with her...or Sam for that matter. I still can't find them in 1900.Now comes the intrigue. I've wondered for years about the Willie Jobe that is listed with Sam and 3rd wife Vessie in the 1910 census for years. He is not a Jobe. He is Willie Brown 1906-1966, son of Vessie and 1st husband, Elisha E. Brown. Now get this. . .
Also, I have a story that my mom's mom has always told me about her grandmother Brown. She said that Vessie was married to her grandfather Elisha Brown and that Sam Jobe wanted to step into the picture. She said that Vessie approached Elisha and wanted him to get her some blackberries for a cobbler. He wanted to go to a certain patch to pick them but she was set on him going to a different location. Unknown to Elisha, someone was waiting for him and shot him. I don't know if it was Sam or someone else shot him. I can't find any information on Elisha's death. My grandma also told me that all the kids that Vessie and Elisha had were sent to different families to live because Sam didn't want them around. Later on they had Homer together and he live with them.I have checked this out with alot of different records...tracing the whereabouts of these children and they were scattered! Even Willie was gone from Sam's house 5+ years after he was born. (in Sam's house).
Randy Jobe owns the top photo while this one is owned by Elizabeth Ford Woods. As you can see there is another child on the far left (missing) in front of Mary Lize - so this appears to be a 'cropped' photo also.Randy writes:
That's not Jennie Hammer next to Sam....could be Delia
Leva Hagar Hammer - Jennie's Daughter
Leva Hagar Hammer, was the illegimate daughter of Jennie Hammer and Burt Rush. She lived with Sam and Jennie until Jennie died. Leva was born August 05., 1892 in Tompkinsville, Monroe County, Kentucky and died March 08., 1953 in Crossville, Putnam County, Tennessee. She was buried in Boiling Springs, Baxter, Putnam Co., TN. On March 18, 1915 Monroe Co., KY, Leva married Arthur Lee Rhoton, son of Wiley G. Rhoton and Catherine Curtis. Arthur was born July 29, 1893 Tompkinsville, Monroe Co., KY and died October 8, 1932 in Baxter, Putnam Co., TN. They had 8 children.

That is a mistake on the part of the census taker. Her real name is Leva Hagar Hammer She is the illegitimate daughter of Jennie Hammer and Burt Rush. She only lived with Sam and Jennie until Jennie died in 1906 and then she went to live with aunt & uncle, Ezekial and Mary Kizzie Hammer Thompson. The Jobe boys always stayed in touch with their sister. (she is half-sister to Mollie, Buddie, Buford and Bas) And my Dad and I always attend Hagar's family reunion 3rd Sunday of August in near Sparta TN.

Don't forget that Delia is also a JOBE DESCENDANT, herself through the Sheffield Line - which goes back to Abraham Job and Elizabeth MacKay.
This sign is just outside the front gate of Springfield National Cemetery. The entrance to Hazelwood Cemetery is just to the left of this sign.Delia does not have a monument. The red flowers marks the spot where the cemetery staff says that she is buried.
Father first name should be Amon - NOT Arnold as stated here.

SUDDEN DEATH CLAIMS
SAM JOBE IN COURTYARD"Last Friday about noon, Sam Jobe fell victim to a heart attack in the courthouse yard. He had come to Tompkinsville by muleback, a distance of more than four miles that morning, and was feeling well when he arrived. He was 69 years of age.
Mr. Jobe had been married three times, and the News was not been able to learn the names of survivors. Burial was at the Hammer Cemetery near his home. Rev. J. A. Jones had charge of the services.
After chatting with friends, and apparently in the best of health, Mr. Jobe became suddenly ill while sitting on a bench in the courthouse yard. Resting his head in his hands, he passed away in an instant."
