It is believed that Sarah Cox was not married at the time of birth of John. Either way, John used the surname Cox. Though several researchers indicate that John's middle initial "H" stood for Hulse, I have personally never seen any proof ot this.
There was a William Hulse, Jr. who left a will. In it he mentioned no children of his own, only nieces and nephews.
