Reminiscing Through Old Writings
(Actually written by Jobe Descendants)

Many of our family have left us a legacy of personal writings (Bible entries, diaries, letters, memoirs), which help us to visualize their daily lifes. We have attempted to collect as many of these letters as possible. By strolling downward, you may slowly linger over each one or quickly jump to a particuliar group . Have a 'writing' to post, please e-mail Freida Wells or myself, Ann Brown.

(In memory of our Jobe ancestors whose writings appear here.)

"Mr. Ed Job
Canton, MO. Feb. 2, 1890
Rienzi, Miss.

Dear Sir,

The promise I made three years ago in Texas I will now try to fulfill.

I have often wondered if we are related. In looking over our old family bible today, I find the names Zachariah Job and Elizabeth, his wife, etc. The age of the first was 86 years 8 months. He died April 2, 1845. the later July 30, 1832 at the age of 68. They were Mother's grandparents and she says she thinks they came from N. C. to Virginia. They had 8 children named Abraham, Jeremiah, Phoebe, Allen, Elizabeth, Polly, Edad, and Medad. All I think came to Missouri and settled.

This runs our genealogy back to 1750. Of course we have later names. Our family married with a family by the name of Odells. For many years they lived in Page County, Virginia, the most of the older ones had died before my father and mother came to Missouri in 1840.

I would be glad to hear from you, Is the old man you spoke of living? Our oldest people here now of the families are my Uncles and Aunts.

Write me at once please and tell me what your folks can remember. I have often wondered where our older ones came from before 1800.

Let me hear from you. I would like to hear more of the family relation. Please give your Grandfather my regards.

         I am very respectively yours,
               Barney Jobe"

"This is a copy of one of my father's letters from Cousin Barney Job. Barney met Uncle Zack Jobe in Tex. and found their names to be the same. Uncle Zack told him of my father W. F. (Bill) Job also of a cousin Ed Job from Mo. who had visited the Jobes in Miss years before who was a nephew of my great grandfather's great uncles and Cousin Barney got the names Bill and Ed mixed and wrote to Ed who was dead and had been for many years and they gave the letter to Pa as he was the old Jobe who had ever got mail at Rienzi. Pa wrote him and they kept up correspondence for several years -til both got too old I suppose. They at least decided they came from the same family Scot and we think before 1746 but we don't know how long before that time."
