The Valley Falls New Era
Thursday - February 7, 1907J.B. STRAWN was born in Green County, Pa., Aug. 1, 1848 and died at this home near North Cedar Kan., Jan. 16th, 1907, aged 58 years, 5 months and 16 days after an illness of about 4 days of pneumonia fever and pleurisy. He had been in failing health for some time, and had made arrangements to leave with his family for an extended trip in the spring, hoping to recuperate his health, when he was suddenly stricken down.Bense, as he was familiary called by his host of friends in Jefferson and Jackson counties came with his parents to Kansas in 1860 and settled near Valley Falls, Kan. He was married to Janie COPAS, Sept. 11, 1875 and to this union were born 7 children, 2 sons and 5 daughters, 6 of whom together with the grief stricken wife remain to mourn a kind and affectinate father and husband. One son, Arthur, died about 5 years ago. He also leaves 3 brothers and 2 sisters, besides a host of friends and many other sorrowing relatives. He will be greatly missed by all as his happy, always jovial disposition made him welcome as friend and neighbor. But he will be missed most at his own home where papa's place will be always sadly vacant now.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. MARTIN at the home, after which his remains were interred beside his son in the R.P. cemetery at Denison, the A.O.U.W. lodge of Valley Falls conducting the services at the grave. It is hard to give up our ones, but we all hope to meet in the great beyond where parting is no more. A Friend.
