PARENTAGE:Research of Robert Wells:This family contains a puzzle because (most unusually) two primary sources provide different information on the same person. I believe that I have figured it out, but I think there is still more work to be done.
You show the obituary of Lucinda Bacon, wife in turn of Moses Combs and Amon Hale, in which she is stated to be the daughter of Edmond Bacon. Additionally she named her eldest son Edmond Hale and in the 1850 and 1860 census records Lucinda was listed in Edmond Bacon's household.
However, Washington Co. court records for June 1869 show the appointment of Samuel W. Baines as administrator of the estate of Isaac Bacon deceased when Isaac's children are all named including Lucinda Hale. In October 1870 a lawsuit was filed by Samuel Baines the administrator of the estate of Isaac Bacon (of James), deceased in which again all the heirs are named including "Amon Hale & Lucinda Hale." So it would appear that two sets of parents claim Lucinda!
The explanation is (I believe) that Lucinda was a daughter of Isaac Bacon and his wife Jane Bacon who died about 1852 leaving a lot of small children. I surmise that Lucinda was farmed out to Jane's brother Edmond and was raised by Edmond and Lydia Ann as if she was their daughter. However, from a legal standpoint Lucinda was an heir of Isaac Bacon and had to be included in the distribution of his estate. I believe this explains the inconsistency. But Lucinda is almost certainly still a Jobe descendant through her real mother, so you aren't losing her line in any case.
I, Ann, would certainly enjoy hearing anything more that would prove or disprove the above.
