Donna (Cox) Briggs, a Sullivan/Washington Co., TN researcher, Cemetery Survey Team of Northeast Tennessee, a multiple Cox descendant herself and life-long resident of Sullivan Co., TN writes:
Lucretia Hale was born about 1836 and died 8 Mar 1874. From my notes: " On the site of the Rock Heritage Church, a grave was found in the 1970's while excavating for the subdivision. The grave reportedly was a woman and a baby. This story was told to me in the 1970's by the family of the developer. In 2004, I was contacted by a member of the Cox family who indicated their family had a cemetery near this area. The woman and baby in the grave were Lucretia Hale Cox, wife of Noah Cox and their stillborn infant. The cemetery was cared for by a descendant until his death in 1973. He was reportedly, the only one who knew where the graves were. I have been unable to determine if the graves were moved. Noah and second wife, Evaline are both buried at the Fordtown Baptist Church Cemetery."The area where I believed the graves were located now has a building on top of it. There was also another cemetery close by that was destroyed prior to 1953. I was told that a property owner wishing to have more useable footage took up all the stones and destroyed them! No one had a listing of who was buried there, but the descendants forced the issue and the property owner was forced to set aside a section of the property where he erected a marker for the people buried in the cemetery. I've attached a photo of the marker. I believe that the "Jack Cox" listed on the marker is actually Andrew Jackson Cox, a brother of Noah's. It's the most logical one that I can come up with.
If anyone has any further information or can add to this, please write me (Ann) directly.
