Obituary - Vienna Times, November 29, 1917
OBITUARY ~ JOBEWe mentioned last week the death of Philip M. Jobe at the home of his son-in-law, W. T. Fairless, near Bloomfield, on Monday evening, Nov. 19, and of the funeral at Casey Springs church and cemetery on Wednesday afternoon following, conducted by Rev. C.S. Tritt, the Vienna M.E. pastor. We haven’t a very complete obituary of the deceased at hand, but give the following: P.M. Jobe was born June 21st, 1851~died Nov. 19, 1917, aged 66 years, 4 months and 28 days. Was married Nov. 6, 1871, to Elvira Keith, she having preceded him to the beyond some 25 years ago. To this union seven children were born, two of whom died in infancy and five are left surviving, as follows: Mrs. Julia McCuan, of Marion, Ill.; Oliver Jobe, of Bloomfield; Mrs. Wm. Fairless, of Vienna R.F.D.; Mrs. Eunice Harper, of New Burnside, and Lewis Jobe, of Bloomfield. The obituary handed us says that the deceased professed faith in Christ in earlier life and was always a firm believer of doing right. If we are not mistaken, Mr. Jobe had never married after the death of his first wife. He leaves some brothers and likely some sisters. W.H. Jobe, a brother, of Metropolis, was here attending the funeral. Mrs. Juliet Reed, who passed away not very long since at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Evans, near Belknap, was a sister of the deceased. Philip Jobe was a good orderly man and citizen, so far as our acquaintance and knowledge of him extended.
Note from Jane Richeson
"My father (this would be s/o Julia) visited and worked for McCuan relatives in Johnson Co., but he never said anything about the Jobe's. One time, he did tell me that Julia's father was a railroad man, her mother had died when she was young and she had to raise her younger brothers and that the soldier's picture on the wall in the bedroom was of her favorite brother (no name given) "
