Lucinda was 15 when her parents and siblings moved to Arkansas from Cannon Co., TN. About 1857, Lucinda married James H. 'Jim' McCabe, whom she must have also know in Tennessee. At this time, I do now know exactly when the McCabe family came to Arkansas, but it had to be not long after the 1850 census.J. H. McCabe, along with John Wolfer, Bob Stultzer, were early prospector in Rush, Marion Co., Arkansas in 1880. They were looking for silver that they had heard about through Indian legends. What they found instead was zinc and their discovery led to the first zinc property that was developed west of Sharp and Lawrence Counties, Arkansas. Today Rush, which lies between etween Rush and Clabber Creeks and along the shore of the Buffalo River is a literally a ghost town, but at one time it was booming the The Morning Star Mine. To see some great pictures of the area where Lucinda and Jim lived and worked, visit this this Rush, Arkansas site about the Morning Star Mine.
James H. McCabe had been born May 1, 1838 in Cannon Co., Tennessee. He appears on the 1850 census of Cannon Co., TN with his parents, Andrew 'Andy' McCabe and Bethany E. 'Barthan' (Estes). Also, living with them on this census is Margaret Mears who is shown as age 76 born in South Carolina. In reality, Margaret (Barnhill) is the widow, being his 2nd wife, of Joel Mears who had fought in the Revolutionary War and died in Cannon Co., TN. (See Cindy's file) Before her marriage to Joel Mears, Margaret was married to Gallant Estes, the father of her children.
