Many researchers list Ephriam with a middle initial of D - though I have seen no proof that he did in fact have a middle initial D.
Birth
So far the only actual source that I have found for Ephriam's birth comes from the 1830 - 1840 census. Know most researchers list him as being born 1765-1769. If you should have a SOURCE for another time frame - Please E-mail me
Parentage
Mose researchers believe Ephriam to be the son of William and Deborah. More research needs to be done to clarify David's relationship to Ephraim and William? There is no doubt from the Franklin Co., records that David is closely related to the other two.
Caty was the daughter of Adam 'Johann' Diehl, Sr. and Mary Magdalena 'Maria Modelany' Burkhardt who were married June 17, 1760 at Dover Lutheran Church, York County, Virginia.

The correct name in German, as recorded in the Dover Lutheran Church in Pennsylvania is Maria Catharina Diel. Her name as anglicized in Franklin Co was Caty Teal. Last name was earlier spelled Diel. Name recorded on marriage was Caty.

Oregon Co.,'s Three Flags--Ephriam is mentioned as one of the early settlers of Oregon Co., (pre 1840) on the Upper Eleven Point River, along with John, William, Ridley and Abrahm Thomas. At the time of the 1840 Census Oregon was part of Ripley Co.,MO.
"...many people in our line make the blanket statement that Ephraim died in 1847. He did not. He died Nov or Dec of 1840. The 1847 date comes from a Sheriffs deed .... and I think the deed is the most important document that relates to Ephriam Thomas that I know of. ... notice that his estate is being settled in Ripley Co.,. His estate is bing settled in Ripley Co., because Ephraim died before 1845, when his land came under the jurisdiction of Oregon Co.,

This day comes West Maulding, Willie Howell, and Thomas E. Old, the commissioners appointed to make partition of the real estate mentioned in the plaintiffs petition filed in this ca?? and reported that the said real estate is not susceptable of division which report is acceptable by the Court. It is therefore considered by the Court that partition of said real estate cannot be made without great prejudice to the owners of the same and it is therefore ordered that the Sheriff of the Co., of Oregon do sell the real estate in the plaintiffs petition mentioned at the Court House door within and for the Co., of Oregon on the first Monday after the fourth Monday in September next to wit in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and forty seven during the term of the Circuit Court for the said Co., of Oregon aforesaid at public auction to the highest bidder for cash in hand after first giving notes according to law and it is further ordered and adjudged by the court that the proceeds of the sale of the said real estate be apportioned amongst the parties in??tt?? thereto in proportion to their respective rights and interest. And it is further ordered by said courth that the Sheriff of said Co., of Oregon make and execute a deed of conveyance for the said real estate in the plaintiffs petition mentioned to the purchaser thereof according to law. I William Parker Clerk of the Circuit Court of the Co., of Ripley do hereby certify that the foregoing contains a true copy of the proceedings orders and judgements made in the ???? mentioned cause at the may term of the Circuit Court of Ripley Co.,.....(etc. etc. I did not quote the remaining boiler plate 20 May 1847.)
By virtue of which said Parker I the said sheriff did on the (4 October 1847) having twenty days previous to the fourth day of October aforesaid given due notice thereof between the hour of nine in the forenoon and five in the afternoon of that day agreeable to said advertisement and during the sitting of the October term of the Oregon Circuit Court at the Courthouse door in the town of Thomasville within and for the Co., of Oregon aforesaid expose to public sale at public auction for cash in hand all the right title claim and interest of the parties aforesaid to the following described real extate in the plaintiffs petition mentioned to wit:
SW1/4 SW1/4 Section 32 T25N R5W (40 acres) and John Thomas being the highest and last bidder for said real estate at the price of three hundred dollars the same was stricken off and sold to the said John Thomas for that sum. (Deed signed by Sheriff 18 Feb 1848. Deed recorded 18 June 1848).
The children, which I list with a ? beside their name, though believed to be a child of Ephriam and Caty, at this time, their relationship is UNPROVEN. We definitely know that a Milly Pritchett was a heir and descendant of Ephriam. However, at this time, we do not know if she was a child or grandchild. If you know anything more about this Milly, mentioned in the Sheriff's deed, above, please write me - Ann (Jobe) Brown.

Though David is mentioned in the 1847 sheriff's deed, he hasn't been located after this date.

Per Marjorie Gracy (Oct 2001) - her reasons for believing THIS Ephriam to be s/o Ephriam and Caty.
- Ephriam and Caty Teal were married in Franklin Co., Virginia and Adam, William, David and Ephriam Jr were born in Franklin Co., Virginia.
- Several of these Thomas's were in Barren Co.,, Kentucky.
- Ephriam Jr bought some land from Adam, he borrowed money from someone to pay for it and then didn't pay the loan, he had mortgaged everything he had, stock, household goods and everything. I have court records to this effect. There was a date set for him to report to court, when that day came, it was reported he was gone and no one knew where too. He went to Marion Co.,, Arkansas. He died there in 1853. He was supposed to appear in court in March of 1850. He bought the land in 1846 and was supposed to pay for it in three yearly installments of $60.10 each, which he didn't do. He gave a mortgage on 95 acres, five head of horses, ten head of cattle, 18 head of sheep, 30 head of hogs and all of his household and kitchen furniture and farming tools of every description. The land was sold at the Court House door in Glasgow for cash in had for $50.00. The personal property mentioned could not be found. He was in the War of 1812 and I have a declaration for a bounty land grant in the state of Tennessee and Macon Co.,. Don't think he received the land because in 1857 Sarah his wife was trying to get this bounty land. I don't have anything that shows if she was granted this land or not. She was still in Marion Co., Arkansas
- I think he was disowned by his family or he may have owed his father money.
- Look at the names of Adam and Ephriam's children.
- Ephriam and Caty went to Smith Co., Tennessee by 1817 then to Jackson Co., Tennessee from Franklin Co., Virginia , then to Illinois and to Oregon Co., Missouri in 1819. ( My Mary was born in 1818 in Jackson Co., Tennessee.)
Observations of Jeff Thomas (Sept 1999)
"The only PROVEN SOURCE that has been found of Abraham is the 1830 Wayne Co, Mo. census. The big concern is that Absalom Thomas, below, is not on the 1830 census in MO or Ark and he did marry (before 1830) Sarah Standley, daughter of Onicypherous Standley/Standlee. You would expect Absolum to be close by. Did the census taker ACCIDENTALLY transcribe Abraham for Absolum? Also Absolum did have a son, John Thomas, who lived to adulthood, who was born about 1823, which partially matches the child profile. SHOULD ANYONE FIND OUT ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ABRAHAM (?) listed ON THE 1830 Wayne Co, MO census - please e-mail me, Ann (Jobe) Brown.*I'm inclined to believe that this 'Abraham' is actually Absolem, shown below.
" Martin Ivie was appointed guardian for Martin Ivie, a minor under age 14. Although Martin's son Vardeman J. was born in 1838 and son Thomas was born 1 December 1842 there was apparently no mention of them in the court notes."
