"Ye Olde" Stanley Assizes. Less than 150 years ago Stanley Assizes were an ominous event for sheep stealers and the highwaymen who were called before the judge to receive sentence, Often it meant death. On Friday May 1st 1953 a play was made about "Ye Olde Stanley Assizes". This photo shows Mr Bloor (Gaoler) taking Mr Yeats (Villain) to the Assizes.
