ACCIDENT AT STANLEY 1747

ACCIDENT IN STANLEY 1747

(Derby Mercury 5th - 12th June 1747 p4)

Derby, June 11: Amongst other melancholy accidents that have happen'd within these few days in this town and neighbourhood, we are assur'd of the following shocking one at a coalpit near Stanley, about 3 miles from hence, on Saturday last.; where a man, with a boy about 16 years of age, going down the said pit the usual way, another man also attempted to go down at the same time, and flinging himself upon the rope, above the other two, his hands slipped, and falling upon the man and boy, threw them off also, and they were all three kill'd upon the spot.
