THE THORNLEY FAMILY

(Photos supplied by Derek Thornley, Pat Bloor and Paul Chambers)

Members of the Thornley family lived in Stanley for most of the 20th century. Charles Thornley (and his brothers Samuel & William) came to Mapperley to live with their aunt and uncle (William & Anne Thornley) in Mapperley following the deaths of his parents in an accident. Charles married Hilda Annie Clark in 1910, and they had three sons and a daughter.  The family home was number 3 New Street. The photographs below show Charles and Hilda and their family.

Charles' cousin Fanny (daughter of William & Anne) married Hilda Annie Clark's brother Arthur.
