DEATH OF WALTER HART 1880

   FATAL ACCIDENT NEAR ILKESTON

 

   Yesterday afternoon an inquest was held at the White Hart Inn, Stanley, near Ilkeston, by Mr Coroner Sale, touching the death of Walter Hart, a collier, who died on the previous Saturday. The deceased was employed at the Stanley Colliery, near Ilkeston, belonging to Messrs. Small and Company. Mr Small and Mr Harpur, manager of the colliery, and Mr Stokes, assistant Government Inspector, were in attendance. Deceased was struck by a piece of timber which fell down the shaft. He had a very severe wound on the left side, and bled very much. His left kidney and a portion of his bowels were visible. The jury returned a verdict of "Died from the effects of injuries received by a piece of timber falling upon him."
