THE WILLIAMSON FAMILY

THE WILLIAMSON FAMILY

The wedding of Arthur Williamson and Eunice Bloor, 12th June 1948.

Arthur Williamson was born in Lancashire in 1921, but his family later moved to Derby. In the late 1940's he was all set to start a new life in Australia. His sister had already married and gone out there, and Arthur and his mother had assisted passage tickets to join them. Then he met Eunice Bloor from Stanley and his plans changed. They married at Stanley church and lived first at Stanley Common, before moving into a house on Coronation Road in Stanley. They had two sons born in 1953 and 1956. However, their life together was cut short when Arthur, who had suffered from rheumatic fever as a child, died of heart failure at the age of 37. Eunice never remarried, bringing her two sons up on her own and working at the local school. She too died relatively young of cancer in 1980.

Also on the photo are Eunice's parents, Thomas William and Gertrude Annie Bloor, and Eunice's brother Dennis (in front of the vicar). The bridesmaids and page boys are all members of the Clark family (Eunice's mother's side).
