THE WINFIELD FAMILY

THE WINFIELD FAMILY

(Photographs supplied by Rob Taylor, Margaret Hutchinson and Edith Green)

The first appearance of Samuel Winfield and his wife Emma on a Stanley census was in 1881. Samuel had been born in Toton, Notts, and had married Emma Thompson of Smalley. Their eldest son, also named Samuel, married Elizabeth Randall. Both families lived in Stanley Common. Samuel Jnr's two youngest sons were both involved in sport - Jack as a talented runner and Ernest Cecil with football.

This photograph is believed to have been taken about 1920. It shows Harold Winfield (born 1898) on the right. The couple with him are thought to be his parents Samuel & Elizabeth. The identity of the child is unknown.
