| Mrs Mary Mellors nee Thompson of Stanley cuts the cake at the Centenary celebration of Dale Abbey school (founded 1869). Mrs Mellors was thought to be the eldest surviving former pupil at that time. She is assisted by the headmaster Mr Fox. Other Stanley residents in the photo are Edward (Fred) Smith of Lower Hagg Farm (standing behind Mrs Mellors & Mr Fox), next to him in the white hat is Mrs Julie Thompson, next to her in the checked coat is Fred Smith's wife. The lady on the far right whose head is only just in the photo is Mrs Cowley, who lived in Long Row on the Brickyard. |
