The Elliott descendancy charts include the ancestry of the extended family. The headings below are of the main branches of the family
ELLIOTT
The earliest record of my family is in the parish records of St Mary's Church Abbotskerswell of the marriage of William Ellot (sic) to Cathern Burt (sic) on the 26th December 1740.
It is not known where or when William was born as many records have been lost or destroyed over the years. The London Society of Genealogist suggested in 1972, that it is likely that "it may well be difficult to identify William Elliott if we suspect we have found him".
Catherine Burt was baptised in Abbotskerswell on the 12th June 1718 as the daughter of Thomas & Catherine Burt
In 1840 Thomas Elliott, great grandson of William Ellot & father of my migrant ancestor moved with his family to the Ilsington area of Devon and commenced farming on the property "Yonder Colesworthy"
YONDER COLESWORTHY FARM 1981
In 1857 my great grandfather Joseph Elliott, born 1834 in Abbotskerswell, Devon, the eldest son of 14 children, emigrated to Melbourne, Australia.
JOSEPH ELLIOTT 1834 - 1886
The Mills family were also emigrating to Australia on the ship the "Morning Star" where he met Hester Mills. They married & after a stint of market gardening in the Gardiner's Creek area just outside Melbourne they joined the rush to the goldfields and later commenced farming near Avoca in central Victoria.
MILLS
The history of the Mills Family is well documented in the book "A Century of Mills Family History 1826-1926" written by Lois Routley & researched by Harcourt Long, Nonie Long & Graeme Mills.
The story of the Wickwar Gang of Gloucester is also included in this history.
HESTER ELLIOTT (nee Mills) 1839-1911
The ancestry of Hester commences with the birth of her grandfather Job Mills in Yate, Gloucestershire in 1771.
CROSS/BACON
The Cross history, my mother's family, commences with the marriage of John Cross to Rebecca Harris 1780 in Stratford St Mary, Suffolk, England. His grandson John emigrated to Australia about 1852 & settled in Hamilton, Victoria.
WILLIAM ANSON CROSS 1862-1942
The BACON'S, also my mother's family, commences with Henry Bacon who was a carpenter in Brentwood, Essex in 1841. His son Charles, also a carpenter, emigrated to Australia with his family in 1857 eventually settling in Casterton, Victoria
SOLOMON
The Solomon family history commences with the birth in 1813 of Moses Solomon to Michael & Sarah in Southwark, London.
Moses married Rebecca Barnett and they lived in Stoney Lane, Aldgate, London.
The family emigrated to Melbourne Australia in 1854.
Assumed to be
MOSES SOLOMON 1813-1888
POWELL
The Powell family history commences in England with marriage of Jonathan Powell to Mary Pitcher in Bath in 1829. By 1854 Jonathan had apparently died, as Mary alone emigrated with 4 of her 5 children to Launceston, Tasmania.
CYRIL WALTER POWELL 1898-1949
