April 28, 1651: Certificate to James Thelaball for 500 acres for trans. of 10 persons, vizt., John Aris, Robte Winter, Wm. Aunger, Allex Masse, Sarah Mincher, John Glover, Anne Meale (Neale?), John Milleger, Anthony Wilkeson & Allex Mouse.

Note: James Thelaball of Lower Norfolk County was a rich and prominent Huguenot immigrant, who married Elizabeth Mason daughter of Lieut Francis Mason and sister of Colonel Lemuel Mason. James left sons Francis and James and daughters Margaret and Mary. His will dated April 9, 1692 was proved September 15, 1693. James Thelaball and Jacob Remey were amongst the first French colonists in Virginia.

July 15, 1651: Demands by inhabitants of Patuxent River: - William Ewen demandeth six hundred acres of land for transporting himself, Ann his wife, Mary Munday, John Demall, Richard Garford and William Cox into this province this present year (1651). Warrant made for three hundred and fifty acres.

1652 - Richard Preston of Patuxent River, Maryland.

May 28, 1652: To the Honorable the Lt. Gen. Laid out for Richard Preston of Patuxent River Gentleman a neck of land in a creek of the said river called St. Leonards Creek and on the east side of said creek formerly called Richman Neck but now Taylors Joy beginning at a point and running east south east up a cove called Feltons Cove for the length of one hundred and fifty perches unto a marked ash next to the land of John Felton bounding on the east with a line drawn north from the said ash for the length of two hundred and fifty perches being the length of the said Felton�s land and then north and by east for the length of two hundred and fifty perches more, on the north with a line drawn west from the end of the north and by east line into the said creek on the west with the said creek unto Felton�s Cove on the south with the said cove containing and now laid out for five hundred acres more or less. February 25, 1653: Thomas Binns, 343 acres, Surrey Co., Virginia, on the south side of James river, viz., from Mr. Bishops cor. tree N. W. along his marked trees, then N. N. E. then N. then W. N. W. the W. S. W. & then S. E. bound Nly. on John Bishops land, Nly. & Wly. upon the head of the reedy swamp & Sly. on Mr. Edwards land. The said land being formerly deserted & ordered to be pattented in the name of sd. Binns & due for trans. of 7 persons: Alex. Hayes, Alex. Rose, Dan. Newel, Nic. Barber, Rich. Jarrel (or Jarret), Arche Mullekin, Step. Lyonel.

Note: The first Binns of record in Virginia was Thomas (b. c.1622), who appears in the Surrey Records as Mr. Thomas Binns a son of the Mr. Thomas Bunn (Binns?) who was residing at the Maine near Jamestown in 1624 with his wife Bridget, son Thomas and five servants. The family are believed to have come from Yorkshire.

1654 - Patrick Mellegin, Maryland.

November 20, 1654: Know all men by these presents that I Richard Preston of Patuxent in the Province of Maryland Gentleman have bargained and sold and by these presents sell unto James Gunion, Patrick Mellegin, Thomas Ager, and Andrew Scott the neck of land in Leonards Creek called Scotland lying and joining betwixt Capt. John Smith and John Felton and doe bind myself to beare harmless the said parties above mentioned from ____or molestation of any person or persons whatsoever except the Lotd Baltimore or son from him from any planter or adventurer into this Province. Witness my hand this 20th of November 1654. Test: John Smith and John Sutton. Signed Ric. Preston

These my certify that I Richard Preston doe assign unto James Gunion, Patrick Mellegin, Thomas Ager and Andrew Scott all the right tittle and interest of this plott belonging unto me the said Rich. Preston excepting that parcell of land which is now in possession of Capt. John Smith. Witness my hand this 20th day of November 1654. Ric. Preston Test: John Smith and John Sutton.

I doo hereby assign over all my right and title of that parcell of land which Capt. John Smith now liveth on lying betwixt Scotland and John Fennis(probably Felton) unto the said Capt. John Smith his heirs forever. Witness my hand this 20th day of November 1654. Ric. Preston Test: John Sutton.

1655 - James Mulleken, Virginia.

January 15, 1655: Certificate to Stephen Key for 250 acres for himself, Elizabeth his wife & Wm. Buckeland. And by Lanill Gaskin for 2 persons Elizabeth his wife and James Mullekens.

Note: It would appear that Lanill or Savill Gaskin sold the headrights for his wife Elizabeth and James Mulleken to Stephen Key who obtained a warrant using these headrights. Savill Gaskin came to Virginia sometime before 1639 as an apprentice or indentured servant to John Gooch who in his will dated January 2, 1639, "sett free Samill Gaskin". On June 12, 1652, Savill Gaskin acquired 250 acres of land in Lynn Haven Parish. The following year in 1653, the County Court is held at the house of Savill Gaskin. Then on October 13, 1653, the Court orders a panel to "view the corps of Ann the wife of Savill Gaskin", and on December 2, 1653, Savill Gaskin grants power of attorney to "my well beloved friend Mathewe Fassett, Mariner". It appears he may have returned to England and remarried (Elizabeth) and on his return brought James Mullikin with him as an indentured servant.

February 22, 1656: James Gunnion and Patrick Milligan doth this day enter a caveat in the secretaries office for administration upon the estate of Andrew Scott and Thomas Ager decreased.

1656 - John Dammarell, Maryland.

March 10, 1656: Provincial Court-Patuxent: - Caveat for 150 acres of land is granted to John Dammarell adjoining to the land of John Bagleys above mentioned. Caveat for 200 acres of land is granted unto John Bagley or Bagbey upon the northern side of a creeke adjoining to the land of Thomas Thomas where the Indians now dwell being in liew of 200 acres of land formerly taken up by the said Bagley upon the lower side and adjoining to the mouth of the Hunting Creeke.

1658 - Mary Dammarell, Maryland.

February 16-18, 1658: Provincial Court-Patuxent: - Whereas Mary Dammarell hath petitioned this court for some speedy course for her safety may be taken for the settlement of the Estate of her husband late deceased and to discharge herself from the sundry engagements wherewith the said Estate is burthoned, the court doth order that the said Mary Dammarell do cause the said Estate to be justly appraised and to bring in a just and true inventory thereof at the next court to be holden in March next and Mr. Richard Collett and Mr. George Gollding are hereby impowered and appointed to be the appraisers of the said Estate and to discharge themselves upon their oaths at the court aforesaid concerning the Estate so appraised.

April 28, 1658: Proceedings of the Provincial Court of Maryland - St. Leonards in Calvert County: - Uppon the Petn (Petition) of James Mullekin plf (Plaintiff) agst Henry Coursey deft (defendent); the defts attorney John Coursey, not having notice or knowledge concerning this cause, desyres a respite till next Court which was graunted.

April 30, 1658: Proceedings of the Provincial Court of Maryland - St. Leonards in Calvert County:- John Odber aged 36 years or thereabouts, sworne 28th Aprill 1658 sayth that about October last was twelvemonth he this depon't heard Mr. Rich Harris condition and agree wth James Mullikin, that if hee the sd James would seate his plantation, wth some servants, tht hee the sd Harris would place wth him to helpe build and clear the sd plantation, the crop being finished hee the sd Mr. Harris did promise to give him three months worke with an able hand, for his winters worke, and futher hee cannot depose. Ct.) att the request of the sd Mullekin.

November 19, 1658: There is a parcell of land taken up by me in Leonard�s Creek upon the east side and surveyed for five hundred acres in the year 1651 or 1652 which survey was returned in to the secretaries office by the surveyor which said land was sold by me to James Gunell and Patrick Millican now Lt.(Lt. Gen.) my request is that you would please lett them have a patent for the said land in both there names and I shall remain Lt.(Lt. Gen.) Yours to serve you, Richard Preston. Patuxent October 30, 1658.

April 1, 1662: Patrick Mullikin desires his warrant for 700 acres of land on the eastern shore or 350 acres on the western shore dated 2 May 1661 to be returned by last of December next to be renewed.

September 26, 1662: This day came Patrick Mullikin and demands a warrant for three hundred acres of land on the eastern shore whereas there was a warrant granted to the said Mullikin April the first sixteen hundred sixty two for seven hundred acres of land which warrant there is a certificate returned and upon record dated the eight and twentieth of April sixteen hundred sixty and two. Therefore a warrant issued to the surveyor gen. to lay out for Patrick Mulliken three hundred acres of land warrant bearing date the six and twentieth day of September sixteen hundred and two return the 26 March next.

September 26, 1662: Survey-Patrick Mulliken -called Patricks Well-400 acres. Vide grant fol. 309-Entered in the rent rolls.
Out of a warrant for seven hundred acres of land on the eastern shore from the right honorable the Lt. Gen. to Patrick Mulliken surveyed four hundred acres lying and being in the bay behind St. James Point beginning at a pine tree marked with 12 notches on the south side of a little creek creek thence running along the bay two hundred perches to a pine tree with 12 notches thence running south east by south south through the woods for the length of three hundred and twenty perches to a marked oak with 12 notches, thence with a line drawn north east and by north the length of two hundred perches to a marked pine tree standing by a marsh side at the head of the St. Stevens Creek marked with 12 notches thence running down the creek the length of three hundred and twenty perches till it intersects with the first marked pine at the mouth of the said creek for four acres more or less. January 12, 1664: Provincial Court of Maryland:- Came Thomas Williams and demands land for the transportation of John Cropley, John River, William Thompson, Thomas Smith, Robert Brown, John Elder, James Mullikin, Thomas Weeds, John Harvey, Thomas Shipsy, William Shipp, William Eding, brough, all come over in the year one thousand six hundred and sixty. Warrant for six hundred acres dated twelfth January one thousand six hundred sixty four. Return twelfth next.

April 16, 1664: Provincial Court of Maryland:- Came James Mullikin and enters these five rights following: Elizabeth Hollis, Lawrence Hyop, William Beale, Phillip Cockley, John Turner. Came the said James Mullikin and desires his warrant for 250 acres of land dated 8 October 1658, return 8th April next. Ensueing right be renewed with the addition of the above mentioned rights, in all 500 acres. Warrant issued for 500 acres, dated 16th April 1664, return 16th day of October next.

April 18, 1664: Certificate of survey laid out for James Mullikin of this province planter a parcell of land called Mullikins Orchard lying on the East side of Chesopeak Bay in the River Transquaking on the West side of said river beginning for bredth at a branch called Mullikins Branch running down the river from the said branch SSW one hundred and fifty perches to a marked pohiccory (hickory tree) standing neer the river side and running from the said pohiccory in the woods for length WNW three hundred and twenty perches bounded on the North with a line drawn NNE one hundred and fifty perches bounded on the East with a line drawn ESE from the former line for the length of three hundred and seventy perches till it intercepts a parrellell branch being the first bounds on the South of the said river containing and laid out for three hundred acres more or less to be holden of the mannor of Baltimore George Richardson, Deputy Surveyor. August 18, 1666: In the name of God Amen, I James Mullikin of Patuxent River Planter in the county of Calvert being sick in body but of good and perfect memory thanks be to Allmighty God and calling to remembrance the uncertaine estate of this transitory life and that all flesh must yield unto death when it shall please God to call do make constitute ordain and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following revoking and annulling by these presents all and every Testament and Testament Will and Wills heretofore by me made and declared either by word or by writeing and this to be taken only for my Last Will and Testament and none other and first being penitent and sorry from the bottome of my heart for my sins most humbly desiring forgiveness I give and committ my soule unto Allmighty My Savior and Redeemer in whom and by the meritts of Jesus Christ I trust and believe assuredly to be saved and to have full remission and forgiveness of all my sins and that my soule with my body at the generall day of resurrection shall rise again with joy and through the meritts of Christs death and passion to possess and inheritt the Kingdom of Heaven prepared for his elect and chosen and my body to be buried in such place where it shall please my executors hereafter named to appoint. And now for the settling of my temporall estate and such goods and chattels and debts as it hath pleased God far above my deserts to bestow upon me I do order and dispose the same in manner and forme following that is to say First I give and bequeath all my lands ans all that I have unto Mary Mullikin my wife and all my children and none other shall have to do with anything therein She only paying my debts.

April 25, 1667: Came Patrick Mullikin and desired his warrant formerly granted him for one hundred and fifty acres to be renewed. Warrant then issued in the name of Patrick Mullikin for one hundred and fifty acres of land due to him by the ____ of a warr�t for the same quantity dated the 30th Sept. 1664 and Return 30th March next. Ret. 25th July next.

1668 - Mary Mullikin, Maryland.

July 10, 1668: Provincial Court of Maryland:- Know all men by these presents that I Mary Mullican the wife of the deceased James Mullican do here assign the full right and title of head rights and warrant granted to Henry Ferrill unto Francis Gunby with the consent of James Williams my now living husband as witness our hands this 10th of July MDCLXVIII (1668). Signed by Mary Williams and James Williams (W=his mark).

1668 - James Mullakin, Virginia.

Will of James Mullakin of the parish of Lynn Haven.

In the name of God amen this 22nd day of August 1668. I James Mullakin of the parish of Lynn Haven being sick and weak in body but of sound and perfect memory praise be given unto Almighty God and knowing the uncertainty of the hour of death and being desireous to settle and dispose of that estate which the Lord hath been happy to bestow on me I do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following. Item: I command my soul unto Almighty God my creator and my body to the earth from whence it came to be directly interred at the discretion of my exectutrix and for my worldly estate I give and dispose as follows secondly after my debts and furneral expenses discharged I will and bequeath unto Richard Lee my son in law when he shall attain the age of eighteen years one cow heifer and a wainscote chest that was his fathers and to Mary Lee a cow and calf in the year 1670.

my sole executrix of this my last will and testament 4thly I do entreat my friends Mr. William Mosley and Thomas Bridges to be overseers of this will to see it go forward in witness of the truth I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.

Will of James Mulliken

"I James Mulliken being in perfect understand, and distinctly perfect of mind tho weak in body do bequeath unto Jok Remyse all my working Clothes both with my used furnishing? I bequeath unto John Remyse two hundred pounds of pork & to his wife six pairs of shoes and ruffs I give and bequeath unto Thomas and David Scott the rest of my personal Estate whom I trust to pay unto James Remyse a hundred pounds of tob[acco] & giving to James a sox or sou? I had of him last year and if he will not accept of it to give it unto Jo. Remyse and appointing the sd David & Thomas Scott my Executors I leave this as my Last will and testament Given under my hand this 7th of March 1686/7".
