The Parish of Ballylinney
The parish of Ballylinney is bounded on the north by the parish of Grange of Doagh, on the west by Ballymartin and south and southwest by Carnmoney, and on the east by Ballynure. It consists of eleven townlands: Ballygallagh, Bruslee, Ballylinney, Ballyhowne, Ballywalter, Ballycalket, Lisnalinchy, Ballyearl, Carntall, Straidnahanna and Kingsbog. The old medieval Church of Ireland was destroyed by insurgents under Hugh O�Neill, earl of Tyrone, and there afterwards, it was united with the vicarage of Carnmoney and the rectory of Ballymartin. Its churchyard is still used to this day as a burial ground for its parishioners.
In 1836, Ballylinney Presbyterian Church was officially formed out of the Congregations of Ballyclare, Ballyeaston, Ballynure, Carnmoney and others, and its new meeting house formally opened on 11th September 1836 by the Rev. Henry Cooke of May Street Presbyterian Church in Belfast. The meeting house lies in the townland of Ballylinney.
