The Parish of Bangor

The parish of Bangor is the located in the Diocese of Down and is bounded on the north by the Irish Sea, on the west by the parish of Holywood, on the east by the parish of Donaghadee and on the south by the parish of Newtownards. The earliest registers of Bangor Abbey Church of Ireland and Groomsport Church of Ireland were destroyed in 1922. St Comgalls Church of Ireland has baptisms from 1803, marriages from 1805 and burials from 1815. One of the oldest Millikin headstones in Ireland is found in Bangor Abbey graveyard and its inscription is noted at the end of this page.

There are six Presbyterian churches in the parish; Bangor 1st & 2nd, Ballygilbert, Ballygrainey, Conlig and Groomsport. 2nd Bangor has earliest register of baptisms beginning 1829, followed by Ballygrainey from 1830, Groomsport and Ballygilbert from 1841, Conlig from 1845 and 1st Bangor from 1852 onwards. 1st Bangors marriage register begins in 1808 with an index 1808-1845; 2nd Bangor begins 1829 followed by Ballygrainey in 1838, Groomsport in 1841, Ballygilbert in 1843 and Conlig in 1850. I have only searched the registers of 1st Bangor so far.
