Parish of Drumbo
The parish of Drumbo lies in the Diocese of Down and has three Presbyterian Churches, Drumbo, Carryduff and Ballycairn, and one Church of Ireland. It is bounded on the north by the parish of Knockbreda, on the east by Comber, Saintfield and Killaney, on the west by Drumbeg and across the river Lagan to the northwest, by the parish of Shankill (Belfast). Drumbo Church of Ireland has vestry minutes dating from 1788, baptisms and marriages from 1791 and burials from 1792.
Drumbo Presbyterian Church has the earliest baptismal notes dating from 1699 and marriages from 1706. The Presbyterian Historical Society holds the originals. In the library of Magee University College there is a Drumbo Session Book, covering the years 1699-1722. Until his death in 1697, the Rev. Henry Livingstone, senior, was minister of Drumbo, Ballynahinch and Drumcaw (Clough) Presbyterian Congregations. With the formation of the Belfast Presbytery in 1697, the Drumbo Congregation was transferred to this presbytery and two years later, the Rev. Edward Bailie became minister.
