The Parish of Errigal and Desertoghill


The united parishes of Errigal and Desertoghill are located in the Diocese of Derry and are bounded on the north by the parish of Aghadowey, on the east by the parish of Tamlaght O�Crilly, and on the west and southwest by the parishes of Balteagh, Dungiven and Killelagh. The earliest Church of Ireland records for Errigal and Dersertoghill were destroyed in Dublin in 1922. There are three places of worship for Presbyterians in the town of Garvagh, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Garvagh congregations. First Garvagh Presbyterian congregation has baptisms from 1795-1816, 1822-1849, and marriages from 1795-1802, 1807-14, 1822-1864. There are visitation lists complied by the Rev. James Brown, minister of the congregation, for 1796, 1818, 1825 and 1840. He was ordained minister of the First Garvagh on December 1, 1785. Second Garvagh Presbyterian Church has baptisms and marriages from 1830 onwards. Moneydig Presbyterian Congregation in the parish of Desertoghill has baptisms from 1857 and marriages from 1852 onwards.
