The Parish of Killinchy

The parish of Killinchy lies in County Down with the parish of Saintfield to the west and Killyleagh to the south, and the parishes of Comber, Kilmood and Tullynakill on the north. Strangford Lough bounds the eastern shore. The Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church holds the earliest Presbyterian records, which includes records relating to Killinchy First Presbyterian Church prior to the split from the Synod of Ulster in 1835. There are pages missing in the register (they appear to have been cut out). Consequently, I have marked those that only appear in the indexes with an asterisk. Killinchy Presbyterian Church has baptismal and marriage records from 1835 onwards. The earliest Church of Ireland records are: baptismal 1819, marriages 1825 and burials 1824 onwards. There are vestry minutes dating 1716-57, 1779 and 1800-1944.

In Killinchy Church of Ireland Graveyard, the following headstone was erected by James Milligan, possibly the same James Milligan styled of Ballgorman or Ballygarmot (that is, Rathgorman) in the Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church records.

MULLIGAN/MILLIGAN
Erected by James Mulligan to the memory of his beloved wife Eliza who departed this life October the 24th 1855 aged 82 years. Also the above named James Mulligan who departed this life March the 6th 1864 aged 86 years. Also his daughter Jane Mulligan who departed this life 7th January 1889 aged 83 years. Also his grand-daughter Annie Milligan who departed this life Novr. 14th 1893.
