Rental of the Hereford Estate

1719 - 1730

The Rental of the Manors of Killultagh and Derryvolgie, the estate of Francis, Lord Conway and Killutagh, is in two parts; the first part covers 1719-1723 and the second covers 1728-1730. They list the names of tenants and lands in the town of Lisburn, and the parishes of Blaris, Lambeg, Derryaghy, Magheragall, Magheramesk, Aghalee, Aghagallon, Ballinderry and Glenavy. Lord Conway owned all the land from Dunmurry to the southern shore of Lough Neagh in Co. Antrim.

The manors of Killultagh and Derryvolgie were originally granted to Sir Fulke Conway in the early seventeenth century. The land passed through his brother Edward Conway to Francis Seymour, created Lord Conway of Killultagh in 1712. He was the second son of Sir Edward Seymour, 4th Baronet of Berry Pomeroy, by his second wife Letita, daughter of Alexander Popham. Francis had succeeded to the estates of his mothers relative Edward Conway, earl of Conway, in 1699, and on his death in 1732 at Lisburn, Francis was succeeded by his eldest son by his third wife, Francis Seymour-Conway, who was created earl of Hertford in 1750 and Marquess of Hertford in 1793.
