"A Rentall of the Estate of the Rt. Honourble Arthur Earl of Donegall in the Town and Manor of Belfast, Mannors of Moylinny Ballylinny and Island Magee in the County of Antrim and of the said Earles Estate in the County of the Town of Carrickfergus and County of Down for one year ending the First of November 1719".

Rental of the Town and Manor of Belfast

No.117: John Haddock, (1) one hundred and sixty six acres and half of land in Malone at �24.1.3., (2) three hundred and eighty seven (387) acres of land in the Falls of Ballydownfine and Ballygammon at �51, total rent per annum �75.1.3.

No. 122: Alex Legg, (1) thirty five acres at �6.0.0, (2) thirty three, three roods, of land in Malone at �6.17.6, total rent per annum �12.17.6.

No. 125: John Matthew, (1) one hundred and twenty acres of land in Dunmurry and one 3rd of Dunmurry Mill at �25.6.2., (2) twenty acres of land and one acre of Bannock�s Moss at �2.14.7, (3) seven acres of Dunmurry at �1.4.0., (4) half acres of Ballydrain Moss at �0.0.5., total rent per annum �29.9.9.

Note: John Matthew was the son of Gilbert Matthew of Dunmurry, who died in 1697.

No. 126: Gilbert Matthew, thirty nine and half acres of Dunmurry at �10.0.0.

No. 127: Roger Mulligan, (1) thirty seven acres of land, part of Ballyfinaughy in the Falls at �13.3.0., (2) thirty six acres of land and eight acres, formerly Widow Bannoch.

Also searched manors of Moylinny, Ballylinny and Islandmagee, and the County of the Town of Carrickfergus, and found no further information relating to the Ms.

The townland of Ballyfinaghy lies in that part of the parish of Drumbeg in the barony of Belfast in Co. Antrim, the rest of the parish of Drumbeg is in Co. Down. A copy of Roger Mulligan�s original lease is preserved in the following Deeds.

Deed of Assignment and Indenture dated June 15, 1727, between Roger Mulligan of the City of Dublin, gunsmith, and Alexander Wood of Summerhill in County Meath, Gent and Thomas Hartwell of the City of Dublin, cutter, reciting that the late Hon Arthur, Earl of Donegal, Viscount Chichester of Carrickfergus and Barony of Belfast, by an Indenture of lease dated June 13, 1717, demised and set unto the said Roger Mulligan all that forty four acres of land being part of Ballyfinaghy situated in upper Falls in the manor of Belfast in County Antrim. And Roger Mulligan in consideration did assign make over to Alexander Wood and Thomas Hartwell the said land in Ballyfinaghy. To hold from March 25 next for 41 years. The assignment and memorial witnessed by William Brown of the City of Dublin, Gent, and Joseph Price? of the same City and Registered in Dublin September 28, 1727.

A Memorial of Indented Deed of Bargain and Sale dated June 2, 1732, between Elizabeth Mulligan, daughter of Roger Mulligan late of Dublin, Gunsmith, deceased, of the age 21 years and Alice Mulligan widow of the said Roger Mulligan, on the one part, and William McClinchy of Ballyfinaghy in the barony of Belfast, farmer, of the other part, whereby Elizabeth and Alice Mulligan in consideration of a certain sum did grant, bargain, sell to William McClinchy that 44 acres of land in the townland of Ballyfinaghy, situated in the upper Falls in the manor of Belfast, demised unto the said Roger Mulligan by the Honourable Arthur, Earl of Donegal, by an Indented Lease bearing the date June 13, 1717 for the term of 41 years, which the said Roger did assign unto Alexander Wood of Summerhill in County Meath, Gent, and Thomas Hartwell of the City of Dublin, seal cutter, by an Indenture dated June 15, 1727, in trust for the said Elizabeth and Alice Mulligan and the said Deed of Bargain and Sale cited was witnessed by Thomas Banks of Belfast Esq., Thomas Hartwell and Patrick McCormick of the City of Dublin, Gents. Memorial witnessed by Thomas Banks, Thomas Hartwell and Patrick McCormick. Signed and Sealed by Elizabeth and Alice Mulligan and registered June 3, 1732 in Dublin.
