Earl of Ormonde'S Muster Rolls




Military Arrangement in Dublin 1643 to 1644

Nearly 40 muster rolls survive for the regiments and companies under James Butler, earl of Ormonde and Lieutenant General of Ireland in 1644. Thirty four companies where mustered on 26th April, 1644, nearly all in Dublin, with a further five mustered on 7th May and one more on 29th May. The muster roll for Newry is undated. Of these the soldiers mustered in 1644, there are two Mulligan soldiers, Owen O'Mulligan in the company of Captain John Campbell, whose company was in the regiment of Colonel Lawrence Crawford, and Edmond Moligan in the company of Capt. Thomas Herman. Crawford�s regiment is listed in the Army in Ireland in 1642, when Capt. Herman held a company under the command of Major General, Lord Dockwra.

The names of Thomas and John Mulligan are record in Major Owen�s Company in 1647. He was in active service under Ormonde from 1642.
