At General Synod held in Antrim on 5 June, 1694

Mr. Thomas Mulligan presented a supplication from Dunmurray desiring that the Synod determine an effectual course on Mr. Alexander Glass on whether he should be instructed to return from Scotland. The Synod determined that the Presbytery should write to him, and if he deemed not to return, he is to be looked upon as a scandalous person and dealt with as such.

A General Synod in Antrim on 1 June, 1708

Mr John Hutcheson, Moderator, presided over the Synod in that year.

A letter from Mr McBride (now in Glasgow) dated 13 May, 1708, to the Synod, following (upon text) Capt. Brice, Mr. Isaac McCartney, Dr. John Peacock, Mr. Robert Lennox, Mr. John White, Mr. Andrew Maxwell, Mr. John Black, Mr. Richard Ashamore, etc produced a commission subscribed by many in Belfast, impowering & appointing them, the said commissioners to prosecute in their name an appeal from the Sentence of the Presbytery of Belfast, dividing the Congregation of Belfast in two. The commissioners gave in a supplication. Wm Crawford Esq�, Mr. John Chalmers, Mr. Wm Rainey senr, Mr. Brice Blair, Mr. John Arbuckle, Dr Victor Ferguson, Mr. Alex Adair, Mr. Robert Andrew, Mr. Robert Millikin, Mr. Joseph Biggar, Mr. Edward Wilson, Mr. Hugh Dyatt, Mr. Wm Rainey junr, Mr. Thomas Lyle, Mr. John Arbuckle, Mr. Jon Taylor, Mr. Wm Roger, Mr. Hugh Boyd, Mr. George Orr their commissioners subscribed by many hands was read. They supplicated that the Rev'd Synod may confirm the Sentence of Belfast Presbytery, erecting them & such who should join with them by voluntary subscription into a districk Congregation to assemble in the New Meeting House of Belfast.

A General Synod held in Belfast on 21 June, 1726

Mr. John Mulligan, commissioner, appeared from Glenon (Portglenone), supplicating that the congregation might be put under the care of the Presbytery of Route. The Synod agreed to supplication of the congregation and that the Presbytery of Route should take care of them. At the time, Glenon or Portglenone withdrew from Antrim Presbytery after the Rev. Shaw of Ahoghill joined the Non-subscribing Presbytery of Antrim in 1726.

Mr. Robert Mulligan and Mr. John Hunter, commissioners, appeared from a part of Drummual supplicating that they might be separated from the congregation of Drummual, as they were unhappy with the call of Mr. William Henderson, minister. However, the Synod hearing the petition from the congregation of Drummual and considering the supplication, sustained the call of Mr. William Henderson, who had been ordained by the Presbytery of Tyrone on October 12, 1732.

A General Synod in Londonderry on 30 June, 1761

Resolved, that the committee to whom the affairs of the Synod's fund were committed, should be called upon to give an account of that fund, and Inquiry being made, it was found they had done no business relating to it since the meeting of this Synod. It was therefore agreed that a committee of the following Brethren, to wit, Messre Macomb, Cherry, Gibson, Ferguson, Neilson, and Mulligan, should meet at Mountnorris the 27 December next, to inspect into the state of that fund and make such regulations for strengthening it as to them shall appear necessary.


A General Synod in Antrim on 29 June, 1762

Mr. Macomb informed this Synod that the Committee appointed to meet at Mountnorris to Inspect into the state of the Synods fund did not meet, the appointment was renewed, and the following Brethren to wit Mess'' Cherrie, Gibson, Macomb, King, Ferguson, Neilson, and Mulligan are enjoined to meet at Mountnorris the 21 of July next, and make such regulations for strengthening said fund as to them shall appear necessary.

Mr. Caldwell, Moderator, moved that another be chosen to moderate in this Synod. The following brethren were named as a leet, to witness Messre Fullerton, Rankin, Smith, Vance, Milligan, Warnock, White, Wilson, Simms, and Gilbert Kennedy. The Roll was called, and Mr. Kennedy chosen. Mr Rodger a continued clerk.

It appeared Mr Mulligan made a collection for Elizabeth Brakenridge and her disordered sister (daughters of the late Rev Bap: Boyd) and hath given it unto them, and that Messre Jackson, Carson, and Young have likewise made collections and deposited them with Mr Miller, by him to be given to these poor women. The other members of Monaghan Presbytery are enjoined by this Synod to make collections as speedily as possible and transmit them by Mr Mulligan to Elizabeth Brakenridge and her sister.

The Roll called and Mr Mulligan was chosen.

Dromore Presbytery report that Mr. John Mulligan died 4 January 1776 and left only children. Fund to the family of Mr. Mulligan.

Dromore Presbytery report that they have examined, previous to their going to College the first time, Alexander Patterson, John Mulligan, Thomas Hay, Robert Little, John Bell, William Murphy, Charles Adams, Robert Phares, George Thompson, John Martin, George Jardine, John Davison, William Hays & John Cavan.

Bangor Presbytery report that they examined Hugh Gamble and James Mulligan, previous to their going to College.

At meeting held Belfast on 29 April, 1818, the Committee appointed by the General Synod of Ulster, to attend the examination of students under their care in the B. A. Institution:

�In Greek�, to Hugh Gamble, John Doherty, George Bellis, John Davison, Robert Kennedy, Georg Thompson, John Martin, John Bell, Thomas May, John Mulligan, John Hutton, George Jardine, Alexander Patterson, James Mulligan, Robert Little, James Cowan, and John Scott Porter.

And the following day on 30 April, 1818:

"In Logic�, to James Cowan, Hugh Gamble, John Doherty, George Bellis, John Davison, Robert Kennedy, George Thompson, John Marcin, John Bell, Thomas May, John Mulligan, John Hutton, George Jardine, Alexander Patterson, James Mulligan, W. Smith, Robert Little, and James Ferguson.

"In Latin�, to Thomas May, Robert Little, John Hutton, John Doherty, John Bell, James Mulligan, Hugh Gamble, William Kay, George Bellis, Alexander Patterson, and John S. Porter.


A General Synod at Belfast on 29 June, 1819

Mr. John Mulligan attended the Synod with other ministers from the Bangor Presbytery.

Dromore Presbytery report that they have received certificates from Alexander Patterson, John Mulligan, Thomas May, Robert Little, John Bell, William Murphy, and William Hay, stating their regular attendance at College, from the 3rd of November until the 1st of May, during the last Session, in the classes of Moral Philosophy, Junior Mathematics, and Greek.

Bangor Presbytery report that they examined William Neilson, and John Byers, previously to their going to College the first time; Hugh Gamble and James Mulligan, after their return the first time; and James Cahoon and Henderson Wightman, after their return the second time; who all attended the full session.
