Marriages 1616-1854


The parish of Dumfries is bounded on the north by Holywood, Kirkmahoe and Tinwald parishes, on the east by the parish of Torthorwald and south by the parish of Carlaverock. The extant register of Marriages commence in 1616 with gaps between September 1623 to October 1635, and from the year to 1648, proclamations are intermixed with other matters. There are no entries between December 1648 to July 1654 or October 1662 to August 1667. The records for most of the 1600s are written in Old Scots. After June 1743 are found 33 entries for October 1736 to October 1740, and there is a duplicate of the record for February 1794 to January 1818.
