Torthorwald Parish Church Records


The parish of Torthorwald is bounded on the north by the parish of Tinwald, on the east by Lochmeban and Mousewald, and on the west by Dumfries. There baptismal and marriages records dating from 1696, and burial records from 1697. The Torthorwald burial records have not been examined.

Burial of John Milligan son to the above John Milligan aged 15, born deaf, he was first said with a swelling in his stomach and belly accompanied with a vomiting afterwards he turned feverish which is or must have been of the vigorous kind, spots appeared thorough out his body, he vomited excessively, the illness became irreversible, he was never deprived do his reason, he continued in his delirious about a fortnight.
