[65] Sir Robert John Milliken-Napier of Milliken
1858: In this year, Kilbarchan Parish Church was enlarged at a cost of about 900, "with two abutments added on each side of Craigends aisle, the tower with its door and stair, and the outside stair near the west door. These additions had the effect of enlarging the area, which allowed for the erection of two galleries, one on each side of Craigends gallery, whilst permitting the inside stairs to the east and west galleries to be removed. Of this date also are the two stained glass windows on the south wall, presented by Alexander Cunninghame and Sir Robert Napier, and the coats of arms on the front of the galleries". The heraldic description of Napiers is given as followed: "Quarterly, 1st & 4th arg., a saltire engrailed between four roses gu. [Napier]; 2nd az. a lion rampart ppr. crowned with an antique crown or [Macdowall]; 3rd arg. two bars gemelle between three demi-lions, two in chief issuant from the uppermost bar and one in base issuant from the base of the shield or [Milliken]".

[66] Milliken Vault in Kilbarchan Parish Church
1858: As part of the same enlargement, "over the to-fall on the south wall", built by James Baird, mason, in 1724, there had been, probably before 1858, "erected an additional storey, providing an apartment to which the family of Milliken retired during the interval between the first and second services. This apartment had a window that opened into the church, close to the pulpit, so that its occupants would be in a favourable position to hear the sermon. The door giving access to it was formerly on its west wall, but door and stair were changed to its east wall, probably in 1858". [The to-fall built in 1724, when the parish erected a new church, was built with an entrance from without, at the end of the old aisle, as a burial place for George Houston, laird of Johnstone. After the laird sold the town and lands of Kilbarchan to Major James Milliken in 1733 the to-fall became the burial place of the Millikens, until 1902]

[86] Millikens Aisle in Old Kilbarchan Church
January 13, 1901: The official opening day of the new Kilbarchan parish church. The building of the new church began in 1899 and was built next to the old church. To the Kirk Session fell the custody, and the right to use to old church as a church hall., provided that it be used for purposes connected with the Church of Scotland, and that the fabric is maintained in a satisfactory condition. The chief parts of the two stained glassed windows [Cunningham and Milliken-Napier] and heraldic shields on the fronts of the galleries were removed from the old church and were set up in the session house of the new church. The old church itself was made suitable for a church hall by the rising up of the floor between two and three feet, which necessitated the removal of all the galleries except that over Craigends mausoleum, by the clearing away of all the pews, and by the opening of a door between the church and the Milliken, anciently Johnstones aisle, from which ten coffins, that hitherto had lain in the under part of it, had been removed to the New Cemetery in March 1902.

[88] Milliken-Napier Celtic Cross in Kilbarchan Cemetery
1902: Celtic Cross erected in Memory of the Milliken-Napier Family. The name marked with the asterisk is in error. Sir James Milliken is a mistake for Major James Milliken. He should appear first on the list, followed by his wife, Mary Stephen, whose name is missing. Her names appears in the Cemeterys burial register. It is understood, this memorial Cross was erected by the Speirs of Burnbrae in 1902, on the death of Mary Milliken, wife of Robert Speir of Culdees. She was buried in plot no. 86.
