History of the National Aldrich Association

The first meeting of the National Aldrich Association was held in Royalton, VT on July 12, 1964. At this meeting Ralph E. Aldrich said that the purpose of the meeting was for the formulation of the Association to compile a complete National Aldrich Genealogy.

Earl Aldrich stated that it was formed to bring together the distant branches of the descendants of the original George Aldrich, who came to America from England, that we might get to know each other better and perhaps help one another trace their family tree to date. The permanent date of the Aldrich Association meeting was the third (3) week-end of July. The following officers were elected in 1964.

Raph Aldrich was a charter member and held the office of President several times. His greatest contribution was to amass as much data about Aldrich's as possible. With the help of his wife Pearl, they created 3000 typed pages of information. The NAA with the help from our historian is gradually transferring the Ralph and Pearl files known as the "AFG" into a computerized data base.

The principle source of the information available to the National Aldrich Association is an unpublished manuscript compiled by two of our members, Ralph and Pearl Aldrich, now deceased. The information was gathered, collated, and typed by them over a period of about 35 years. This manuscript has proven to be quite reliable. Their son, Robert, donated it to the National Aldrich Association in 1995. As people send us information, we add it to our data base.

The philosophy use by the founding fathers was to keep the dues low ($2..00) per year and to have meetings in different locations in order to create local interest. Initially they had a mailing list of 300 persons. The early meetings attracted up to 90 persons at the annual reunion. We have the minutes of the meetings from 1964 to the present.
