8. HOW MUCH OF OUR CHARACTERISTICS COME FROM OUR SURNAME ANCESTOR?
Who and what we are comes from all of our ancestors, not just from the person who gave us our birth surname. A chart on the AYNESWORTH + AINSWORTH site is very informative about the rational degree of relatedness we have to various ancestors and descendants.
The surname portion of who we are is really no more important than any other contributors to a given generation. We study it for two reasons: Most of our cultures treat this part of our ancestry as very important; and - - - this new Y-Chromosome analysis is only able to trace this one line at the present time.
WHAT OTHER QUESTIONS MIGHT THIS PROJECT ALLOW US TO ANSWER?

Are the Manor Township,
Lancaster, Pennsylvania CORRELLs of the 1700s related to the Earl Twp. Correll
family?
2.
Are the Corells and
Corrells of Virginia and North Carolina related to either of the two above
families?
3.
Are the Correll/Coryell families of northeastern Pennsylvania and
New Jersey related to any of the above?
4.
Are any of the many
Corell/Correll families of Germany or America related to each other or to the
above families?
5.
Are the Scandinavian
Correll families for whom there is no evidence that their ancestors were in
Germany and who have Hammerschmidt [blacksmiths] in their history related to
the German families with a like heritage?
6.
Which family groups
ought to be collaborating on family history due to possessing a common
haplotype?
7.
Are the various
spellings of the family name indicative of a different origin, or do some have
a common haplotype with those with different name spellings?
8.
Can any American
families connect via a common haplotype to any of the families from other
continents?
As we collect more samples of DNA from participants of various name spellings and continents of residence we will no doubt raise more questions as well as answer some of the above.
